Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump called Monday for a “total and complete” ban on Muslims entering the United States, barring followers of the world’s fastest-growing religion because he considers the faith rooted in hatred and violence.

The proposal — which was quickly denounced by other candidates from both parties — marks the latest escalation of the virulent anti-Muslim and *anti-immigrant rhetoric that has fueled his unlikely candidacy. It also came less than 24 hours after President Obama urged tolerance in an Oval Office address, saying the fight against terrorists should not “be defined as a war between America and Islam.”

But at a rally Monday night in South Carolina, Trump received a boisterous standing ovation as he shared the idea, telling the crowd that a ban is “common sense” and that his Muslim friends agree with him.

    Oy vey.

I'm sure such staunch American Muslim allies like the Kurds, Jordan, and the Gulf States will continue to gladly help America fight the Islamic State with a policy like this. And Muslim states the world over will continue to trade with America. Who gives a damn about any Oil Blockade! In no way will they make a fuss about this at the UN. After all the Donald has 'Muslim friends' and even they told him this is needed!

This here Fascism under The Donald sure sounds so easy and FUN!

But by all means, lets keep 99.99% of all discusion of all the candidates focused on Trump.
I like the guy and I'm with him on this one.... but when are we going to start giving credit where credit is due?

At this point I have to assume anyone still supporting Trump must be a bigot.

          And Cruz, and Paul.
Nope, Cruz and Paul along with every other GOP candidate have proposed temporary moratoriums on refugees that originate from nations where the Islamic State and al-Queada operate. They have never championed a complete ban on ALL Muslims (including immigrants, refugees, tourists, students, diplomats, and even American Citizens) as Trump has. Cruz has gone on record of disapproving of Trump's plan saying : "Well that, that is not my policy."

          Some more tidbits:

Marco Rubio (Fla.) tweeted: “His habit of making offensive and outlandish statements will not bring Americans together.” Cruz said in an NBC interview that “there are millions of peaceful Muslims around the world.”

It's Trump. His supporters will just rally around him even stronger when he's criticized for this. It will garner some headlines, and maybe bump him a little from exposure, but in the long run it's liable to scare more moderate Republicans away.

Halting Muslim world immigration to the West, until we have cracked integration and radical Islam, is a prudent move in my view. If not complete zero, only the most deserving refugee cases and small in number.

Prime responsibility of the State is to protect its citizens and Muslim world immigration is a major risk.

Am I really supposed to sit here and debate something that's an absolute joke? Trump would make a better court jester than president.

Given that you led with the line that anyone who disagrees with you is a bigot, it is difficult to see how a debate of any kind with you will proceed.

For everyone else, Trump is again painting his rivals in a difficult position. Are they pro Muslim world immigration? The Dems are ramping up Muslim world immigration, in Germany-esque fashion at present. Maybe that is not what voters want.

It's interesting that the more Trump says that's Right wing the more hysterical the Progressive Leftist response is.

Trump is advocated exactly what the terrorists want though.

What about severe restrictions on countries with Ebola epidemics in the recent past.

When are people going to realize that radical Islam is a contagious mental disease?

People don't need to come to the U.S. they want to come to the U.S. It's not the same as persecuting people that are already here. It also sends a Message to Muslims to clean up their own mess something they refuse to do. If most people are like me the charge of bigotry just forces them toward Trump not away.

Liberals are going to pay a price for siding with a religion that is anything but peaceful. All you have to do is read the Koran to know that it is not a religion of peace. It is also impossible to be a true Muslim and a U.S. citizen because Islam definitely requires control over secular law. If 1.2 billion people joined a new cult called sacred sex and that was stoning adulators would we up and say oh that is your right because of religious tolerance? Islam is a warped, patriarchal, tribal religion, perhaps one of the worst religions the world has ever seen and the Liberals know it is. Now they are eating their own over the issue. I just hope that they come out of this seeing how stupid people like Chomsky actual are.

If the Liberals had taken the necessary measures, the proposals from Trump would not be needed .

In 1939 Britain and France were at war with the nazis : every German could be a nazi, thus no Germans could be allowed and those already present were taken in custody . And, no one protested .

Now US and Europe are at war with Islamists:every Muslim can be an Islamist, every Muslim is a potential terrorist:thus stop them from entering ,vet those already present, expell the illegal ones and expel those who can't prove that they are not terrorists .

These measures are harsh, but it is the fault of the Liberals :if these had done their duty, we would not be in the present mess .
