  • DHS Spent $1Billion To Digitalize One Form

A Department of Homeland Security agency spent more than $1 billion in taxpayer money to digitize immigration paperwork -- and after a decade of work, only has managed to put one document online.

I work for a state agency, our biggest cost is complying with a federal regulatory agency (EPA), the waste of money is epic.

I am not surprised, but what surprises me is that they didn't spent more which would be SOP for the federal government.

Give them time...they haven't started on their second form yet.

Come on, the average government worker is not that incompetant.

They actually did manage to get one done and the cost was probably reasonable.

Its when you add in overhead such as crony payoffs, out-of-program political PAC contributions, a donation or two to the clinton folundation, subscriptions to internet porn sites and a real nice Las Vegas party to celebrate the successful launch of the new form, then the expense balloon from $100k to $1B.

Don't equate cost with actual results.
One is necessary to keep the economy going, the other is just some trivial bother.

                    Well...not exactly trivial...

Do you pay $1 billion per form in Canada?

It is not that the people who are incompetent, the system is designed to be dysfunctional.
All government agencies have one common goal, to expand power, next most important goal is to waste money.

DHS = Dumb Helpless $h!+ bags. What's new about clueless bureaucrats making stupid decisions?

That's how some popular guy with a high school diploma that moved up from being a screw up customs clerk got to choose the company that would spend a billion dollars on a failed piece of software...

No. And my point is that you probably didn't either. Most of that money was probably spent on
                          a) payments to cronies or PACs which support the ruling political party,
                          b) non-productive entitlement spending for parasitic government employees or c) re-applied to support other programs which have overspent thier budget.

It's pretty much like I said. Moron manager who has been promoted for either screwing up or popularity picked the company. It might be he / she was willing to take crap jobs to move up too. The people that put out the RFQ's worded them poorly and the companies that responded took full advantage of that. That's because they too are horribly unqualified to do their jobs compared to people in the private sector.

Then the company took advantage of their position to overcharge for the contract by completing like 70% of the work the saying they'd need more money. The idiots in government caved and gave it to them in the next year's budget thinking that they're close to finishing. This goes on for several more years and then finally the program is finished.

Problem is it's now outdated and really user unfriendly so the agency decides to do it over rather than use it...
