  • Trump on SNL

I have been watching. The show isn't even over yet (as of this moment) and my conclusion is Trump's campaign is finished.

I thought they would have learned this lesson with McCain-Palin.

Huh? Is SNL making him look silly? If so, in Trump's case that will backfire. Trump revels in rolling in the mud with the opposition. He'll turn that into a major positive.
Trump isn't McCain. Trump has no ethical or moral high ground to defend. He's a pig and willing to wrestle with the rest of the pigs.

The Porn-star "Donald Tramp" bit. Seriously, this is just sad.

So, I was right. He's like a pig in a sty full of mud...

Maybe so, but my point is no Republican Presidential candidate has any friends on SNL. Appearing on that show is, in my opinion, beneath the office Trump is running for and he should have avoided it like the plague.

Actually, if you have a clever candidate I'd say the opposite. The Left revels in low brow, insulting, juvenile humor thinking they are insulting their opposition. This backfires completely with rational and "normal" people. It comes off as crass and insulting.

But, with Trump I'd say he'll come out of it a winner. He's the sort that takes glee in his opponents making idiotic fun of him. He revels in it. He'll point it out, repeatedly even without it being brought up.

SNL screwed the pooch with him and that sort of behavior. They could have made any other Republican candidate look bad. With Trump they just strengthened his position.

Did you ever see that King of the Hill episode where Bobby takes lessons from a Progressive Leftist "comic?" This is almost a 180 reversal of that episode.

              That is true.

              That is also true.

That is the part I am not seeing. The left is desperate to destroy Trump as a candidate and remove him from the race. To me, this bit on SNL devolved into Trump handing them both the gun and the ammunition. He looked ridiculous, and was labeled a racist on more than one occasion. He even played into that meme during the restaurant skit.

I just don't see how this is a win, even given:

If he had illustrated such behavior without having first been a willing part of it, I could see your point. But wallowing in the muck and then claiming none of it stuck to you...

You may be right. But if I were a Presidential candidate and one of my handlers advised I go on SNL, the next words he would hear would be "you're fired!"

You must be kidding. 'The left' would pay for his campaign if they thought it would get him a win in the Primaries. Goes double for Carson, Cruz & Paul. Probably Bush too. 'The left' isn't scared of Trump. Hilary would relish facing him in an election. You are currently watching one of the reasons why - he is an egotistical clown whose support has probably hit something near its ceiling. 'The left' is scared of people who might actually win. Fortunately for 'the left' the GOP has been weeding those guys out or letting them wither.

Want to know who 'the left' is worried about? he's from Florida & his name isn't Jeb. Trump would be a dream come true for Hilary.

That's where they crash and burn. Instead of lampooning him they end up being insulting and crass. They can't help it because they're blinded by ideology that trumps humor. They don't see that.

The Left is generally only funny to the Left when it comes to politics. The rest of the spectrum can be funny to anyone. Yes, the Left might not like what the Right says but they can find it funny.

That is one major reason Progressive Leftist talk radio fails. They aren't funny to anyone but other Progressives. Want proof? Listen to "comedian" Stephanie Miller's show for a week if you're not a Progressive. You will understand exactly what I'm saying regardless of your non-Progressive politics. That goes for moderates, Conservatives, anyone who isn't on the Left.

I'd say the exact opposite is true. The Left is terrified of Trump, Carson, or Fiorina. They don't know how to handle any of them. They'd prefer a solid, stoic Conservative of the traditional type who's too polite to take them on. They don't want a firebrand or radical who will throw down with them.

As a Canadian disinterested in the background politics, I found the show a total disaster and entirely unfunny. One of the worst episodes of SNL I have ever seen.

You guys are making the same mistake you always make - imagining that the guys you folks like....this week....and the one the left hates....this week....is the one they are scared will win the election. We saw the same thing in 2012, where every 'non-establishment' candidate who polled well for a week was the new 'best thing ever' and the new 'candidate the left is scared of'. You are also letting your visceral hatred of the left get in the way. It is projection dressed up as analysis.

Trump has more baggage then Atlanta Airport. He has said & done so much stuff over such a long time that it isn't going to be hard to make him look unsuitable for the Presidency. If his past doesn't do the trick, just wait 5 minutes & he'll say something that will get it done. Some people may like the craziness now, but when it comes to picking the person who is going to have the nuke codes it won't wash. Trump is very popular with a small segment of the electorate & poison to a majority.

People on the left dislike Trump & are scared about what he might do as President, but that isn't even kinda sorta the same thing as being scared that he will actually win.

If anything Carson is worse. At least Trump has run big organizations and has that 'big personality' thing. Carson's appeal outside the GOP base is going to be even smaller. he is terrible at communicating & is looking increasingly gaffe prone. He will be easy pickings for Hilary. Don't know much about Fiorina, but that is a purely academic discussion at this point. Actually, so is Carson. I doubt he will win a single primary, and as per usual you guys will blame 'the media' or somesuch.

Hilary lies awake at night dreaming about facing off against Trump & Carson. The fact you guys are SO convinced that they are this election's Messiah's should give you pause for thought. YOU want a firebrand, that doesn't mean that is what is going to win an election. Like I said, projection masquerading as analysis.

I agree that some of the 'establishment' guys are just as bad, especially Bush, but there is a balance to be struck between 'staid' and 'firebrand', between 'conservative' and 'clown'. Trump ain't it, so he ain't scaring anyone who is serious about the election. Personally I really truly hope Trump gets the nod. Really.

Like I said, the guy who sends shivers through the Dems is from Florida. The rest are just entertainment.

But it does show the entire nation just how "silly" the whole process has become. "Debates" that don't "debate" at all. "Gotcha" newsie reporting. "Ordaining" being done by the MSM.

The whole thing is a CIRCUS.... so why shouldn't the "Donald" get on the band wagon too?

The only thing that makes Trump different is the fact that he really doesn't care whether or not he gets to be President.

......oh, and NO ONE can "make America great again." THAT has to come from the people. Frankly I don't see how that can be. Too many spoiled, lazy, "I've" got a "hook". self centered types to EVER have that happen.

I have to agree with all that you have said. I just wish I didn't because you paint a bleak picture indeed, but a true one.

I don't know what it would take to make America whole and great again, but I fear it will take a disaster of unimaginable proportions or something similar.
