  • Commander admits size of US-trained Syrian force about 4 or 5

This is outrageous! How much have we taxpayers been ripped off for this time? Millions of dollars to fund covet training project and we have "4 or 5" ?
The top U.S. military commander for the Middle East admitted Wednesday that only "four or five" U.S.-trained fighters remain on the battlefield in Syria, leading to accusations from lawmakers that the program is a "joke" and "total failure."

Gen. Lloyd Austin, commander of the U.S. Central Command, addressed the state of the so-called "train and equip" mission in testimony before the Senate Armed Services Committee.

The original goal for the first year was to train roughly 5,400 fighters to take on the Islamic State. But the first group of 54 U.S.-trained fighters was attacked by a Syrian affiliate of Al Qaeda, which killed and captured several of them and sent others fleeing.

This "commander," is he stupid or what? Is he Joe Biden? Maybe he's King Arthur in the Monty Python version. Can't he count to 5?

    That's ultra pathetic!

Just ask yourself; what sort of commanders would be getting the nod for the last 7 years, if a meathead like Biden can be confirmed as VP.?

Hell, everything that this administration tries to do turns in to a cruel joke, it's downright pathetic, it's not all Obama, it's the fools he has surrounded himself with, so after all I guess it's his fault.

Well let's just give him another $60 million, maybe we can train 4 more.

Gen. Lloyd Austin was only following orders from his commander in chief to implement a stupid program.

It seems like he followed stupid orders and failed in a spectacular fashion. He was supposed to make chicken salad out of chicken manure and he failed. Generals that fail get fired. It goes with the job. He has 39 years in and can draw full retirement. Of course he does happen to be African-American. Will Obama get another first by firing his first Black General?

Relax guys. The US Army touts itself as "An Army of One". So those 4 or 5 Syrians have to be at least the size of German Barbarossa force.

I dont see how you can blame the general for failing at a doomed project i mean 4 to 5 is better than the bay of pigs.

Personally i say just train up the kurds. And supply them with some AA sytems to shoot down turkish fighters that like to accidentally bomb them

Unfortunately as an old British saying from oop North goes
"If thee wants a job done proper do it thee sen" You can use proxy fighters but you still need some boots on the ground and if you don't want to do that (or public opinion won't allow it) then there's not much point in bothering at all.

Apparently, at the current rate, training another 4 would cost about $400 million.
