  • Sacred Stories in Islam and Judaism

I found out that Syracuse, NY is home to a Turkish Culture center which has held diversity events. I know for a fact that many Jews and Muslims around the world would be totally against the nonsense, immature viewpoint that there is something wrong with the so called Jewish and or Muslim world. For the folks of the world who praise Jews while hating on Muslims or vs versa, you ought to know that many Jews and Muslims would be adamantly against this view that Muslims and or Jews are out to get us. For more on the real world see the following..

The event was held at Temple Concord near Syracuse University welcoming more than 40 guests from diverse religious background. Beth Broadway from Interfaith Works of Central New York moderated the story telling event mentioning that organizing interfaith gatherings builds hope for Syracuse community. Jim Brule started the interactive conversation by explaining the role of Prophet Abraham within Jewish faith. He said that the story of Abraham and idols actually appears in Midrash not in Torah.

This unity among Jews and Muslims is not only witnessed in America... but also in Morocco(which is over 99% Muslim)

The haters will suggest insults about the Jewish state as well as Muslim majority countries. I think that people should get along, say nice things about each others countries..it really goes along way to be nice to people. The winners of life are the people who seek to work together, the losers will continue to lose out until they understand that generalizing Jews and or Muslims in a negative way is wrong, its uncalled for, its just not the proper behavior of a gentlemen or lady.

On my next trip to Turning stone casino I'm going to have to check out the Turkish Culture center. This place has fun written all over it...

I don't understand how anybody could read Jewish and Muslim texts without coming away with the impression that they worship a caprice, genocidal, cruel and vengeful god.

It was the beauty of Islam as well as the Albanian code of Besa which influenced Muslims to save Jews during WW2.

                      http://www.jewishpost.com/news/Why-A...Every-Jew.html

Why Albania, A Nation of Muslims & Christians, Saved Every Jew.

The Albanian rescue is unique because of its scale, including not just Jews within their borders but every Jew who sought refuge there during the Holocaust. Though the Nazis had invaded and occupied Albania and expected it to cooperate with Hitler’s “Final Solution,” everyone, from officials to farmers, organized to save Jews. There were approximately 200 Jews in Albania before the war. From the late 1930s, until Allied forces defeated the Nazis, thousands of Jews were smuggled into Albania by Albanians outside the state, primarily by Kosova’s Albanian majority. Once inside, Jews were treated by Albanians as guests that had to be defended, fed, hidden in private homes (often for years), and transported to safety whenever danger threatened.

Why did Albania, a country consisting primarily of Muslims and Christians, rescue Jews? The answer lies in Albanian history. The oldest inhabitants of Southeast Europe, Albanians have survived centuries of invasion, occupation, expulsion, and even genocide. No sooner did they emerge from 435 years of Ottoman Turkish occupation, than they were divided by the “Great Powers” (Austria-Hungary, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, and Russia). Serbia annexed half of Albanian lands, including Kosova, and other parts were given to Montenegro and Greece. Only because of the intervention of U.S. President Woodrow Wilson was the State of Albania created after World War I.

When World War II broke out, and Mussolini’s Italian fascists and then the Nazis invaded, Albanians treated Jews as guests, because religious and ethnic tolerance is part of Albanian history. It is based on the Kanun, a set of customary laws that has regulated Albanian conduct, since their Illyrian ancestors arrived in the Balkan Peninsula thousands of years ago. With its underlying moral code of besa, emphasizing tolerance and compassion, the Kanun was passed down orally and enabled Albanians to survive centuries of persecution. Besa links personal honor to respect for and equality with others. It also involves protection of a guest even to the point of forfeiting one’s own life. The modern Western concept of “foreigner” does not exist in the Kanun, only the concept of the guest. When the Nazis were bent on genocide, it was natural for Albanians to save Jews.

Also the Ottoman Empire took in Jews whom were expelled from their original homes the 15th century. The TCC website and other resources that can be easily accessed on the internet provided examples of Jewish and Muslim Turks/Ottomans who worked together.

And Haj Amin al-Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, was a virulent anti-Semite who outwardly supported Hitler and wanted to murder all the Jews in Palestine.

Apparently, he also helped recruit a Moslem SS division from the Balkans to fight for Hitler.

It was the 13th Waffen Mountain Division of the SS Handschar (1st Croatian).

                        Sincerely,
                        M
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are we are; One equal temper of heroic hearts
Made weak by time and fate but strong in will
To strive to seek to find and not to yield.

Just for accuracy's sake what was the make up of the Handschar?

Some Muslims did the right thing, some did not. Kind of like everyone else. More importantly why is everyone responding to this troll?

Composed of Bosnian Muslims (ethnic Bosniaks) with some Catholic Croat soldiers and mostly German and Yugoslav Volksdeutsche (ethnic German) officers and non-commissioned officers, it took an oath of allegiance to both Adolf Hitler and the Croatian leader Ante Pavelić.
Sources differ regarding the division's initial composition. Pavlowitch states that sixty percent of its recruits were Muslims and the rest were Yugoslav Volksdeutsche who made up the majority of its officers and NCOs.[26] Tomasevich states that it was formed with 23,200 Muslims and 2,800 Croats, with mostly German officers. He further states it was the largest of the Muslim SS Divisions with 26,000 men.[27] Lepre indicates that the division's prescribed strength was reduced from 26,000 to 21,000,[28] and Cohen states that the division achieved a maximum strength of 17,000 in April 1944.[29] The division had a Muslim Imam for each battalion other than the all-German signal battalion.[30] For about six months the division included about 1,000 ethnic Albanians from Kosovo and the Sandžak region who made up the 1st Battalion of the 2nd Regiment, which later became the 1st Battalion of the 28th Regiment (I/28).[31][32]

By the time the division had completed its training, it was still about one third below its designated strength in both officers and NCOs, and its officer corps remained almost entirely German.[32] Most of the officers and NCOs were drawn from replacement units of other Waffen-SS divisions
