  • Our future is bright, the Republic is safe, thanks to goat's and spiders!!

Well I don't know about you, but I feel much better about the future of our nation and mankind!
Why? You may ask ! With all the bad news, riots, cops being killed by citizens, citizens being killed by cops, refugees, ISIS, the threat to other republic by the likes of Trump and Hilary, national debt, trade deficits, the crisis on Wall Street, the threat from Putin and the plight of Brucie Jenner......after all of that. And North Korea and Global whatever....we finally have something to be proud of, something that will deliver us from all forms of evil, and it would not have happened without tax supported research, we now have goats that can make spider webs!
    Praise God!

And, for the measly sum of $500,000 they wove a tapestry out of spider silk too...

The link demonstrates the importance and practical use the research could lead too. Kind of negates the fun you are making of it.
“The time has come,” the Walrus said,
        “To talk of many things:
        Of shoes—and ships—and sealing-wax—
        Of cabbages—and kings—
And why the sea is boiling hot—
        And whether pigs have wings.”

Humor is not your strong suit.

We've actually had them around for quite a while now, and the silk they produce is extremely useful in a wide range of products since it is functionally stronger than steel for many applications.

The goats also produce a lot more silk than spiders do and are easier to keep and maintain.

            Welcome to useful genetic engineering.

Nor yours, it seems. CE isn't being funny...he's being truthful. The stuff is enormously useful in all sorts of things including bullet-proof vests, and this way, no one gets accused in world court of exploiting the poor spiders of the world.

I was imagining a mountain goat with the capability to trap small game in a web!
Maybe the next spider man can be a goat herder ! Now that would be funny.
Seriously, with all that's going on in the world it's good that people are still working on technology that will at some point maybe years from now, will improve life on earth.

The technology has been around for years, it has been featured on several science programs, and the products are circulating around right now, and they are "improving life on Earth" far more than video games, cellphones and automobiles.

                  Start with this concept:

The animals look and act just like regular goats: Workers milk them like they would at any dairy, and the goats raid their handlers’ pockets for stuff to chew on—a risk you face around any kid, doe, or billy goat. But scientists have added an extra protein or two to their already nutrient-rich milk.
One of those proteins is from the golden orb-weaver spider. Its silk, tougher than Kevlar, is a hundred times stronger than human ligaments. The potential for a light, incredibly resilient fiber is immense:
