Maybe Fox will rein in NatGeo's reckless alarmism...
Climate change denier Rupert Murdoch just bought National Geographic, which gives grants to scientists
By Xeni Jardin at 11:14 am Wed, Sep 9, 2015

The National Geographic magazine has been a nonprofit publication since inception in 1888, but that ends today. The long-running American publication becomes very much for-profit under a $725 million dollar deal announced today with 21st Century Fox, the entertainment company controlled by the family of Rupert Murdoch.

Murdoch is a notorious climate change denier, and his family's Fox media empire is the world's primary source of global warming misinformation. Which would be no big deal here, I guess, were it not for the fact that the National Geographic Society's mission includes giving grants to scientists.

Or had you forgotten? Here's a refresh for you, a fun little interview with Murdoch on his climate change views...

    This bit is funny...
Murdoch is a notorious climate change denier, and his family's Fox media empire is the world's primary source of global warming misinformation.

Fox News and the Wall Street Journal editorial page have been the only large media outlets which have consistently challenged the junk science of AGW alarmism... And NatGeo was one of the biggest purveyors of the junk science of AGW alarmism.

    From the WaPo...
National Geographic gives Fox control of media assets in $725 million deal

By Paul Farhi September 9 at 9:27 AM

Ever since it was launched from the temple-like headquarters of the National Geographic Society in Washington in 1888, National Geographic magazine has illuminated the world’s hidden places and revealed its natural wonders.

On Wednesday, the iconic *yellow-bordered magazine, beset by financial issues, entered its own uncharted territory. In an effort to stave off further decline, the magazine was effectively sold by its nonprofit parent organization to a for-profit venture whose principal shareholder is one of Rupert Murdoch’s global media companies.

In exchange for $725 million, the National Geographic Society passed the troubled magazine and its book, map and other media assets to a partnership headed by 21st Century Fox, the Murdoch-controlled company that owns the 20th Century Fox movie studio, the Fox television network and Fox News Channel.

Under the terms announced Wednesday, Fox will control 73 percent of the operation, called National Geographic Partners, with the balance held by the National Geographic Society. The partnership, based in Washington, will include a portfolio of National Geographic-branded cable TV channels, digital properties and publishing operations, most notably the magazine that has advanced the society’s founding mission — “the increase and diffusion of geographic knowledge.”

        I would expect:

        1. The magazine's slant decidedly moves to the Right. That probably will increase sales as Progressive Leftist publications have a long history of being unpopular.

        2. That the magazine will feature more ads, including some most likely that are the "scratch and sniff" variety.

        3. That it will revert more to being a travel an geography journal than a shill for Progressive environmentalism.

Yeah, the White House, but it won't be anybody from the Geographic...

Let's try and stay on topic.

Exactly. That's how it works in the publishing world.

So expect to see a special issue on the Syrian refugees in the very near future.
