  • $500 Million To Train Only Sixty Syrians!?

President Obama's $500 million plan to raise an army of Syrian rebels to fight the Islamic State horde is falling far short of its target, attracting only a few dozen recruits to the cause.
"As of July 3, we are currently training about 60 fighters," Defense Secretary Ash Carter told lawmakers Tuesday.

IIRC the main problem was that the US demanded that the recruits will commit to not use the skills they were taught by the US to fight against Assad.

At six million a pop, we should be able to afford about 80 of these guys for the same amount:

Pretty sure that with the recent Hillary emails it's getting more obvious that some of the Mid-East's insurgents and terrorists are getting directly funded and armed by us.

Oh-bama, playing with your Cold War politics when it ended nearly three decades ago.

For a fraction of that amount we could hire a several hundred mercenaries to go in and clean house. In fact, we could probably get the Israelis to do it.

This is beginning to resemble the American training and arming of the mujahadeen that turned into al Qaeda, or the training that we gave certain South American military forces.

This can only come back to bite us, and obviously the locals aren't interested in fighting for themselves.

Maybe they can make a movie about this initiative called 'The Dirty Five Dozen'!

I have an even better deal that will save the US money and be as effective.
For $3 million, I promise not to fight for anyone involved.

Sorry, but our quota of non-fighters was filled up long ago.

MM - If they make a movie here, they might make the $60 million back. Just thinking, we would need at least one 'big named celebrity'. Hmmm, who could we get? Oh, I know someone who could care less about our interests and doesn't mind working for the enemy - how about Jane Fonda??? She could be sitting in the back of a toyota 4x4 manning the gun for the poster pictures!

Another option for a title could be 'Sleepless In Syria'!
