Who decided that liars... err... lawyers were the be-all, end-all of legal knowledge and purveyors of all things legal?

I'd say that they have done immense damage to the US and that thinning their numbers by 90% and putting the rest on a very short leash would be a very good idea.

    • This is perhaps the most idiotic, arbitrary and capricious passage in the SCOTUS majority opinion...

Kennedy actually appealed to the tradition of a "two-person union" while micturating on traditional marriage.

How on Earth can the Miracle Amendment apply to two-person unions without applying to any other number of people in marital unions?

How can a two-person union between brother and sister or parent and adult child not also be guaranteed by the Miracle Amendment?

      • This thread and many others like it around the world will be archived for posterity, to be looked back on in utter shame by the subsequent generations who cannot conceive of how we could ever have disallowed gay marriage.

The post quoted above will be archived forever under the heading of: Utterly Clueless, in the same file folder as Justice Kennedy's illogical and lawless majority opinion.

          • The slippery slope just got more slippery...
Could Friday’s Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage across the country make polygamous marriage a legal reality nationwide in the near future?

Jonathan Turley, the attorney who won the polygamy marriage case in Utah for Kody Brown and his four “Sister Wives” thinks the majority opinion “resonates” with the arguments he made to the Utah Supreme Court to decriminalize polygamous consensual relationships.

“The cases are actually different in that the Brown case is about the criminalization while today’s case was about recognition. We have not argued for recognition of plural marriages. Indeed, the Browns have never asked for multiple marriage licenses,” Turley said in an e-mail statement to The Daily Caller.

“Like many plural families, they have one state license for one marriage but chose to live as a plural family with “spiritual marriages.” In that sense, our case is more like Lawrence v. Texas that was handed down ten years ago.”

Lawrence paved the way to today's ruling, just as Justice Scalia predicted it would.

Truth be told if the SCOTUS supported hatred, bigotry, and homophobia some here would be massive fans of the SCOTUS.

Governments do not treat people equally :

Drinking laws are varying from state to state, the same for driving laws, for gun laws, for smoking laws, for capital punishment ,etc.

Children have not the right to vote, children of 10 year can not marry . A father can not marry with his son,....

The reality is that 5 judges have decided that as the gay marriage is legal in 37 states it must also be legal in the other 13 states.

Thus : I expect that the same also will rule that as capital punishment is legal in 13 states it also must be legal in the other 37 states and that as in certain states people younger than 18 can't drink alcohol in public, it must be the same in all states .

It's pure intolerance : nobody in Texas is opposing gay marriage in California, thus why should California oppose the fact that gay marriage does not exist in Texas ?

If all the states must have identical marriage laws, they all must have identical gun laws, driving laws, smoking laws, etc

If one state enforces the sharia, all states must enforce the sharia ?

If one state is raising legal majority to 25 the others must follow ?

Never heard of : e pluribus unum ?

                    • What "letter of the" Constitution empowers SCOTUS to override Article IV and Amendment X of the US Constitutiion and constitutions of at least 37 States?

The original intent of the Fourteenth Amendment was to ensure that the States did not deprive newly freed slaves of equal protection under the law.

Legally defining the word marriage as the union of 1 man and 1 woman, deprives no one of equal protection under the law. Does the limitation of marriage to 2 people deny bisexuals equal protection under the law? Do laws against incestuous marriages deny those with Oedepus complexes equal protection under the law?

If the Fourteenth Amendment requires States to recognize marriages of same-sex couples, then it also must require States to recognize polygamous and incestuous marriages.

The Fourteenth Amendment empowered Congress, not SCOTUS, to enforce its terms.

Congress had already acted in regard to gay marriage with DOMA.

If it's the beginning of the end "of bigotry based on sexuality," what's next?
                            • Incest?
                            • Polygamy?
                            • Beastiiality?

Whats the next step on the path to the end "of bigotry based on sexuality"?

Never... Because such a ruling would be well-grounded in logic and the Constitution.
