  • 24-hour Rides For Drunken Senators

During the recent budget cuts, we have discovered a perk for California senators paid for by the taxpayers. They get 24-hour free rides if they are too drunk to drive after-hours.

When asked about this perk, no one in the state capitol were willing to discuss it. This has been around for years and always buried in the annual budget.
It's not as if they call a cab, they hire drivers to do nothing else but serve them at will.

I have a feeling this perk won't be available in the next budget.

California Senate offers 24-hour rides for drunken members
    By - Associated Press - Friday, May 29, 2015
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - California senators too drunk to drive can turn to a 24-hour ride service funded by taxpayers, a local newspaper reports.
State records show that the California Senate hired in February two part-time employees whose duties include “ground transportation for Senate members.” The employees are paid $2,532 per month, the Sacramento Bee reported (http://bit.ly/1PTPRBj) Friday.
The service comes after high-profile arrests of lawmakers on suspicion of drunken driving. Four lawmakers in the last five years have been accused of drunk driving, including three on streets around the Capitol.

In most states a member of the legislature cannot be arrested while they are in session.

So its better than letting them drive drunk.
Any man can hold his place when the bands play and women throw flowers; it is when the enemy presses close and metal shears through the ranks that one can acertain which are soldiers, and which are not.

Is it? How about publicizing their drunkeness every time it happens so that the voters know what kind of scumbags they have in office?

Seems like a better approach than a taxpayer funded cover-up, right

Too bad Californians can't do something about them passing legislation when too drunk to think... Since that seems to be normal for that state's legislature...
