More specifically the Governor of Michigan, the matter couldn't even get out of committee in the state senate and the governor did what he could to support it with executive powers - kudos to him. Matty has the Michigan legislature completely in his hands. The lack of support from the Obama Administration is inexplicable.

The name chosen for the bridge is very appropriate. Gordie Howe is a Canadian hockey player who played for the Detroit Red Wings.

Great article on the push to get the bridge approved - 6 chapters from MacLean's Magazine. Governor Snyder emerges as a hero.

Want to bet? Those tolls will still be there long after you and I are dead, like every other toll being collected long after the pay-back date has come and gone.

No politician ever gives up revenue, especially when it's a lot of revenue that just keeps pouring in.

Meanwhile, outfits like the Canadian National Railroad ship millions of tons of cargo back and forth across the border every year without crossing any bridges at all.
Like others have said, tolls will still have to be collected for maintenance.
You're right, the CN doesn't use bridges, they use tunnels.
The Detroit-Windsor border crossing is the busiest international commercial crossing in the world.

Not just "a" hockey player but the GREATEST HOCKEY PLAYER OF ALL TIME. Even Wayne admitted it. Gordie played an all-around game. A Gordie Howe hat trick was a goal, an assist and a fight. He didn't have to fight much because he could use his fists.

You have to make allowances for some folk.

Even I know who Gordie Howe is. He represents exactly half of the ice hockey players I can name. You can probably guess the other one. Man deserves a bridge. Well done Canada!
