  • Widespread power outages sweep Washington, D.C.

Some news is reporting an explosion, some are reporting a power surge.

The power outage in the Washington area was caused by a small explosion at a power transfer line in southern Maryland, according to a U.S. official. CNN has been told that The Department of Homeland Security is closely monitoring the ongoing power outage.

The outage struck everything from the White House to the State Department, where government employees and reporters saw lights and power flicker out.

Locally, a high voltage line shorted out on a power pole in front of the house. It sounded like some fired off a shotgun next to the house. Then, the power went out. The pole caught fire even though it was raining at the time.

Lets wait for an official report before speculating what happened to cause the DC blackout.

Why Ron, it was those progressive liberals. Are they not at fault for all the problems in your life?

If this power outage, due to a substation failure, had occurred elsewhere, the story likely would not have made it beyond the local news. Such failures take place some 2 to 3 times a year in this region. They are usually caused either by storm damage, or some critter shorting out on the insulators.

Too bad, the lawmakers, law breakers, had to work in the dark for a while. Even that Democratic Socialist occupying the White House if he wasn't gone fund raising or golfing.

If you read the article, the official report has been issued - no signs of sabotage or terrorism.

                That's plain enough.

The power company involved was listed in one article as "PEPCO" which I take to mean "People's Electric Power Company." That should tell you everything...

(I have no idea what the real name is by the by)

Wow...talk about missing it by a mile...PEPCO stands - reasonably enough - for Potomac Electric Power Company.

Two seconds flat with a search engine...

I still like my version better, and it is likely more accurate...

Except for the ones caused by hoodrats.

The power outage, which is affecting about 2,000 customers in the Washington area was caused by a small explosion and fire at a power substation in southern Maryland, according to local and U.S. officials.

As I said just prior to your post, this was really a non story. These type of failures can happen anywhere. They are usually the result of some small animal electrocuting itself, some failure from worn equipment, or storm damage. And, a high voltage short will sound and look like an explosion.

Of course, the Lame Stream was hoping for something bigger in DC to distract John Q Public from the failures of the Democratic Socialist in the White House.

Could be one of several things. A squirrel or rat committing suicide, a breaker exploding, a transformer exploding.

Inquiring people want to know if more work got done with the electricity down?

My wife and our two youngest were at the Air, Space Museum when the electricity went out.

                              The following message was broadcast:

"Evacuate the museum, all employees go to your designated shelters"
