  • NYC to add two Muslim holidays to calendar

NYC Mayor announces change to the 15-16 school year. Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr will be holidays.

This adds to several Jewish and Christian religious celebrations.
“The time has come,” the Walrus said,
    “To talk of many things:
    Of shoes—and ships—and sealing-wax—
    Of cabbages—and kings—
And why the sea is boiling hot—
    And whether pigs have wings.”

More days off from school? If I were still a child, I'd be celebrating.

They just want to avoid getting Nuked by Iran, and the kind of whacko they have for Mayor now would see this as the right way to do it.

      Too bad for D.C....

Maybe they should schedule school breaks in between all of the holidays?

What next? Holidays for all of the illegals?

How abut holidays for all of the other religions practiced in NYC? Rastafarians, Hindus, Buddhists, Taoists, Shintos, Wiccans, Pagan, Druids, the odd Witches' Coven or two, Scientologists, Climatologists, Proctologists and those who still worship Obama? ( there is considerable overlap among the last two groups...)

Oh, and we will definitely need holidays for the Atheists and the Agnostics.

You hit the nail on the head, of course it can't be the 100000, or 10+%, of the school population that is Muslim, nope that can't be it.

What about the Hindus, Buddists, and the like?
Any man can hold his place when the bands play and women throw flowers; it is when the enemy presses close and metal shears through the ranks that one can acertain which are soldiers, and which are not.

It's one day. A break = Holiday when dealing with a one day event. Never fear however Spring break in NYC always covers Passover, Good Friday and Easter so they are following your idea with that.

I said it to the atheists when they ed about Christmas, I'll say it here too. Anyone who complains about getting a day off should be sent to a forced labor camp and worked 12 hours in a mine shaft until they can appreciate the fact that you're getting a day off.

For the record TLAPD needs to be added.

So long as there's a written policy in place about the %, and every student is required to state for the record their specific faith.

Because the 10% figure has been contested as based upon skewed data. 10% of students who checked the optional religion box put down muslim, but not 100% of the forms had that category filled out.

I've never had a problem with religious days off, and never understood people who do get offended by them. I'm looking forward to Easter already.

Only the most extreme idiot ever complains about a day-off concerning a different religion than their own. Those Atheists who run around screaming about how Christmas should be renamed so their small brains aren't offended are no different than those Christians who run around screaming about putting Christ back into Christmas - the whole lot of them should just be smacked around and told to go home and spend time with their families.

And don't get me started on the morons who will raise their heads to talk about how we shouldn't have any non-Christian religious holidays because this is a Christian nation...

Actually the first one, Eid al-Adha, could just as easily be celebrate by Christians and Jews as well. Celebrates:

"the willingness of Abraham (Ibrahim) to sacrifice his promised son, Ishmael (Ismail)a, as an act of submission to God's command, before God then intervened, through His angel Gabriel (Jibra'il) and informs him that his sacrifice has already been accepted."

So they are still getting short changed in the count...

Doesn't need to be any such policy. Mayor makes the call. So far it was only the Christian and Jewish days getting the day off. He added two more. His call.

There is a need if integrity is an issue.

If its not, then you are correct.
