  • News from Germany

Some times you find a news story that is just so bonkers one can't sum it up in a headline.

    Winnie says
    ---------------------------------
"He fell out of a Gestapo car, over a bridge, and onto a railway line. Then was run over by the Berlin Express.

    It was an Accident."

Munich?? Why, no. I'm still in germany. Also, that happend in Bavaria, many foreigners confuse it with germany. Up here we have a "Verein für deutsch-bayerische Freundschaft" (Organization for german-bavarian friendship).

As you can easily tell (should you speak german and bavarian) theres lots of friendship with the clumsy bavarian oafs.

Lenin once joked that if German socialists decided to capture a train station, they would've queued for an hour to buy tickets first.

Tolerant Teutons? Now that's an oxymoron.

East germany is "prussian" and thus predominantly protestant. Im not too sure but I think this has some effect on how they view their own body as less "sinful" than the souther catholic germans. Dont pin me down on it though, im not a religious scholar.

                          edit
That or the comunistic disdain for religiousness and the attached world views.

I thought East Germany was more atheist now, due to the effects of Communist rule?

It was indeed oficially so. However religion is pretty dominant in culture so you cant eradicate it without destroying the culture too. They gladly took over the protestant workethic for instance.
