  • Definitely someone with too much time on their hands . . . .

Vegan activists who broke into a farm in Spain and rescued 16 rabbits, before allegedly being “shot at” by farmers, may have inadvertently led to the deaths of around 100 more animals - according to vets working at the farm.

Around 50 young activists in a dozen vehicles broke into the farm near Osona, in Catalonia, last Sunday, where the farmers apparently tried to halt the theft, and called the police.

Despite police intervention, the activists got away with 16 rabbits.

But according to local paper La Vanguardia, a vet’s report prepared by the farm before it files an official complaint indicates the loss of the 16 rabbits, some of which were reportedly pregnant or lactating, has in turn led to the deaths of over 90 of their offspring who were dependent upon them.

The vet’s report also alleges five rabbits were severely injured during the raid and reportedly also died as a result.

According to a vegan activist who goes by the online avatar “Mythical Mia”, during the chaotic confrontation farmers hit the activists with metal poles, and strangled them. . . . .

Yeah, that tends to happen when you go fcking with somebody's livelihood.

. . . . Writing about the farmers’ actions on Instagram, she said: “The police came and told us to leave peacefully, which we did. After we left the farmers chased us down the motorway at 200kph [122 mph] for an hour.” . . . .
That's like the car chase scene from a John Frankenheimer film. Wonder how these poor suffering animal activists had money enough to afford a car that can go so fast, and the fuel to power it.

. . . . The activists then also called the police and were reportedly given an escort as they continued their journey, but when the police left them, the farmers reportedly caught up “came alongside and shot at us”, the activist said.

In her video, she says, in an English accent: “I’m covered in blood. This is what the farmers have done. They shot through our window and chased us down the motorway. Oh my god, I’m literally covered in blood.”

Writing afterwards she said: “The window exploded in my face and there was a lot of blood from all the glass. We’re currently at the hospital and waiting to go to the police station to report this crime.” . . . .
I thought that firearms didn't exist in Europe. Yet another hole in this ridiculous tale.

I love the little girl pouty face.

It appears as if the wound is on the left side of her face. This incident took place in Spain, not the UK, so I'm supposed to believe that the farmers shot through the driver's side of the activists' car, and that their driver was still able to maintain control of the vehicle and not wrap the lot of them around some tree -- at 120 mph. Can you say "puh-LEEZE"? This is better than Bullitt.

Are rabbits in danger of extinction or something? Like, if I take two rabbits and leave them on the sidewalk, won't they turn into a hundred rabbits within a week? Can a possibly stupider cause exist for over which one can choose to risk one's life-and-limb?

            . . . . Six of one, half dozen of another . . . .

Though in all honesty, the protesters come off worse: the breeders were just doing their jobs. Had the protesters just minded their own business, the minks would not have become hawk food -- and since the protesters did their deed without thinking the thing through, they prove themselves nothing more than spiteful little adolescents. Yeah, they're the biggest turkeys of the lot.

I'm more interested in knowing what - if any -repercussions they will face as a result of their trespassing, theft and vandalism.

It reminds me of such a "raid" on a mink farm some 20 years ago or so in the US north west. Activists broke into a mink farm facility, and released over a thousand minks into the wild.

All the minks died as a result of cold weather and exposure. The "activists" justified it by claiming the minks died in the wild, as it should be.

IMO - The Spanish farmers didn't fire their weapons enough....

I would imagine Farmers would keep any firearms they have to keep varmints away. If the young lady is British, why did she have to go to Spain to be a busybody? Don't they have places in the UK that are closer? Maybe they were using this as an excuse for a holiday in Spain? Spanish Farmers can afford cars that can hit 120mph?

British mink farmers were inconsiderate bastards who kept alien American mink in wretched and insecure conditions so that they tended to leak out into the countryside where they did immense damage. The animal rights protesters were also inconsiderate bastards who facilitated the release of more of them causing even worse damage.
