I'll just toss this in - a poll released only recently (Agence des droits fondamentaux de l'Union européenne) showed that rising anti-semitism, once the domain of the far right has now become the domain of the far Left, often citing direct correlation between so-called anti-zionism and anti-semitism.

You should have popped in for toast and marmalade for tea and then went to see sailing ships upon the sea..................

      1971, great year.
Not sure about Jenny Artichoke, as I was about to buy some psychobilly records at the Lcck Market. And then went to see (proper to say "to take") a boat tour along the locks.
Yes, 1971 was certainly great and rich with wonderful music.
Especially this gem by the Kinks

(albeit this live version was recorded in 1972)

      Thanks for the songs!

Nothing strange. Israel is a far-right state who uses force against Palestinians and denies the existence of their state.

I suppose you are right in requiring a more nuanced reply.

The point was not that a direct correlation was established but that there is a relationship between paranoia and violence. Suppression tends to legitimize violence in the minds of radicals. I'm sure that is one of the reasons that European countries appear to go easy on Islamic radicals.

We should try to quantify the relationship between free speech and violence.

While all sociological studies must be taken with a grain of salt studies of the link between video games and violence are numerous and long standing. The studies usually show no statistically reliable correlation.

Certainly video games represent a small aspect of what we call free speech but related studies have been done for the traditional visual entertainment and media industries. What we can gather is that, as American courts have decided, is that the link between free expression of violence and actual violence do not justify restrictions.

More study needs to be done but a somewhat laissez faire attitude towards political violence combined with active debate over political differences appears to have worked fairly well in liberal democracies. The opposite approach of severe enforcement and restricted speech as characterized by fascist states would appear to be more dangerous. Without more data we will have to rely on historical experience.
