No amount of damage control could work around that, if that was in open waters it could have been a disaster... the way it lists so fast, would’ve lost a lot of crew members.

The video does not seem to be a time lapse (if you look at the water splashes you can see that). The tugs apparently tried to push the frigate closer to the shore to prevent it from becoming fully submerged since water is apparently some 20 to 30 meters deep right off that rocky point. Maybe the gash at the bottom got snagged to some rocks? Reportedly the Norwegians were apparently really busy drilling holes to the rock to fix the ship with cables to make sure it wouldn't slip to the bottom.

    Yes of course, good understatement.

The Norwegian Captain and probably a few of the officers are looking at an early end to their careers.

So what do you make out this?

Modern Norwegian Aegis equipped frigate returning from military exercises collides with a tanker that has just left the port and still has pilot on-board as well as an escorting tug (apparently to help maneuvering in the relatively narrow waters) with it. If the AIS tracks of the tanker and the escorting tug are to be believed it was doing about 7 knots at the time of the incident. Apparently no serious damage to the tanker but 8 (or 7, varying between sources) of frigate's 137 strong crew were injured. Frigate was evacuated and beached as well as they could with the steep shores typical for fjords. Collision took place in VTS controlled area while - according to marinetraffic - the frigate was running dark, as in not having AIS on. Kinda strange choice since they had to report their arrival to the VTS area regardless (according to Norwegian press).

A slightly more recent news... https://www.aldrimer.no/fregatten-an...ntatte-ganger/ (Norwegian) - Frigate was warned repeatedly both by the tanker as well as by the VTS. Reply «Vi har kontroll» - 'we have control' - yet collide. Several other sources confirmed the attempts to warn the frigate from the potential collision. So it does appear that both sides were aware of each other. The fully loaded tanker however likely unable to do any rapid maneuvers.

In other reports there apparently are already plans to lift the frigate onto a barge and disarm it - it was part of the SNMG1 so plenty or live ordnance aboard. While the hull of the frigate seems to be a total loss (or as put in some press 'total economic loss' - meaning could be repaired/rebuild but would probably be cheaper just to build a new one) some of the equipment may not have been ruined and could be salvaged (like that radar).
