  • 30th anniversary of Gladbeck seige

Saw this on the BBC news site. It is about a bank robbery and subsequent murders of hostages in West Germany 30 years ago. Of note is the extreme incompetence of the German police, and the role plaid by the media in aiding and encouraging the killers.

I remember this incident, it was all over the news across Europe and did spark a debate on the role of the medias. Many people at the time said it seemed they had all become tabloidish overnight.

Had to go to wiki to read up on the hostage takers, was shocked to learn that one of them is to be released THIS month under "conditional parole".

German justice is as weak as the US is hard. Both over board.
