  • Poland to Move Soviet Monuments to 1 Location

Polish government took the unusual step of relocating Soviet WWII monuments to just 1 location, an abandoned army base. New Terra Cota Army? It will be a bizarre sight. Probably an attempt to deflect criticism that "the Poles are destroying monuments".

WARSAW, Poland — Polish historians said Tuesday they want to move more than 200 communist-era monuments to Soviet troops into a former Red Army base to testify to a historic “untruth.”

    That seems reasonable.
Any man can hold his place when the bands play and women throw flowers; it is when the enemy presses close and metal shears through the ranks that one can acertain which are soldiers, and which are not.

Too sad that Putin isn't Stalin. This guy would have moved Poland to one location in Siberia.

Well, the present policy of Poland is dominated by narrow-minded chauvinists from PiS. That is just one of symptoms along with speculations from official levels that Katyn aircrush was a Russian provocation to quote an example.

I would say that this kind of policies usually dominated in Poland. **** on neighbors - especially the bigger ones looks like a national tradition.

Reasonable, sensible, and creates a tourism opportunity - they could create a whole museum at the location dedicated to Soviet monuments and the post-war, pre-independence period at the army base.

Why is it narrow-minded? The Poles had to fight the Soviets for their independence after WW1, then were stabbed in the back by the Soviets in 1939. Let's not forget the massacre of the Poles at Kaytn.

And finally the occupation by Soviet troops until that regime collapsed.

Why would the Poles want monuments to such people dotting their landscape? Its their country.

How many Soviet monuments remain in former WP nations or east Germany?

Let Hitler exterminate them would have been a better option ? Compared with what Poles did on occupied Russian territories for centuries and what Hitler planned to do with them, Soviet actions weren't that much especially considering Poland's policies regarding USSR.

So, back to the topic, then:

                              Its a reasonable action.
