  • Breivik wins over Norway in prison lawsuit.. His rights are being violated. So?

This puke killed 77 people! As a result he gets to live in a three room suite, has three meals, healthcare, a gym, TV. But his rights are being violated because he can't chat online with his Nazi sympathizers...

Norway needs to grow a pair and put this mad dog down!

Anders Breivik's prison conditions are a violation of Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which prohibits "inhuman or degrading" punishment, an Oslo court ruled on Wednesday.

The court... has concluded that the prison conditions constitute inhuman treatment," the Oslo District Court said in a written statement, noting that the rightwing extremist had been held in isolation for almost five years.

As part of the ruling, the state will have to pay Breivik's case costs of some 330,000 kroner ($41,000, €36,000).

The 37-year-old far-right extremist claimed at the March hearing into his lawsuit that his almost five-year isolation confinement violated the European Convention on Human Rights.

Yeah I saw that. Too bad he wasn't shot on the spot.

Send him to Huntsville, Angola or Leavenworth and place him in General Population. Guantanamo might do as well. Norway has a mind set I am puzzled to figure out!

The law's the law. You don't get to not apply it just because he's a particularly heinous criminal.

Also please note the court ruled AGAINST him with respect to the claim that his correspondence being limited violated his rights. The ruling in his favour was specifically in relation to him being kept in full isolation from other prisoners (cannot share a room even while under guard supervision) and not being allowed to share a room with his lawyer except when separated by glass.

The American attitude to incarceration obviously isn't doing jack to deter crime, so perhaps a more considered approach than "HOW DARE YOU GIVE HIM A TELEVISION AND HOT MEALS" should be taken here, involving some serious self reflection.

          And if he was Hitler?
Here is the deal. You kill multiple people in cold blood, you don't have any claim to human rights...

Let him mingle with other prisoners. Do not search them for weapons. Case solved.

That being said, this comes back to the relative view on how "much" a prisoner needs (or deserves), and how that relates to the law and the concept of justice. We look on Norwegians as soft while denouncing North Koreans for their brutality.

At the end of the day, I'd be more concerned with the law being upheld according to Norwegian concepts of it than external voices, and that they follow that system well.

Really, multiple homicides causes you to have no human rights? Pray tell, under the American system, how many people do you have to murder before the constitution no longer applies to you, legally speaking? If you shoot 5 people, then surrender to the police, do you not have a right to an attorney? Perhaps 8 people? Do you skip the trial phase since "you killed multiple people in cold blood, you don't have any claim to human rights"?

Anders Breivik is NOT a person of color, so your attempt at misdirection in not valid. American Law Enforcement will put down anyone that threatens them, regardless of race, creed or religion. The ones that do so without cause are in trouble!

How I see it. If your caught bloody handed. Ie found smirking like this ass hat you shouldn't be given any rights that you didn't give them.

I could care less about his 'civil' rights. He gunned down kids remorselessly. Shoot him and let god sort it out.

77 young people killed in cold blood because of thier political beliefs, even worse because of their parents political beliefs!
Maybe that is tolerated in Norway. Maybe that is why Hitler rose to power, because Europe is soft of thugs.

You seem to have an almost compulsive need to misrepresent things. The court found that a strict control on his correspondence was NOT a breach of his human rights.

If you are doing an impression of a stereotypical right-wing American who has no knowledge of history, politics and the world around them then bravo, as it is entirely convincing.

If they take away his PS2 will they rise from their graves? The answer is no. He has been subdued and imprisoned. His sentence will be evaluated once he reaches the maximum term limit and extended indefinitely in 25 year increments, as it can be under Norwegian law.

If a police sniper could have shot him en route to his massacre years ago, that would have been an acceptable action. Killing him now accomplishes nothing. Prison is exactly where this sort of person should be, separate from the population. Killers of his magnitude are far too rare for Norway to bother restructuring its justice system just to seek revenge - it works just fine for the country. You shouldn't spend time getting upset over a properly functioning system because it doesn't satiate your bloodlust. Capital punishment was abolished in 1979 for them and the country didn't fall apart. The opinions of Norwegians even in the immediate aftermath of these attacks was still firmly entrenched - less than 20% in favor of the death penalty, over 50% opposed. There are far more pressing issues for you to spend your time on.

A Person of Color in the US is pretty much the same as a Person of Color in Hobart. Someone from Tasmania has more than little gall talking about killing Black people in the US. The White settlers in Tasmania killed off the native Tasmanians. Maybe you can make us a joke abut that little bit of genocide?
