Drones have got to be one of those things keeping security and anti-terrorism agencies awake at night.

Yes if one can carry and delver a book for Amazon it can carry a bomb or disperse bacteria or radio active dust over a wide area on behalf of people even less nice.

        "No drones for you!"

This whole drone phenom is getting scarier every day. With the tech now available, drones are capable of eavesdropping or spying or annoying anyone, anywhere. Not to mention they are also capable of bringing down a commercial airliner by flying into the intakes.
I wonder if there could be some technology that interrupts the signal from a controller to its drone that would ground it when it comes into proximity with a piloted aircraft perhaps some sort of anti-drone phalanx system.

Drones have already been used here in the UK to deliver drugs and mobile phones into prisons. A sort of criminal version of the Amazon project. There is talk of regulations to force suppliers of the things to incorporate a database of forbidden map coordinates into their flight systems so that they cannot be flown into or over prohibited locations. These would include airports, prisons, defence establishments, water treatment plants, nuclear reactors and the like. The problem is that this would have to be hack proof whilst at the same time being capable of receiving official up dates.

With a little money and some practice a terrorist could fly one of these into a airliner and take it down, easier than getting a bomb past security or TSA.
              These are scary times.

hence my OP. And there are other matters - if they can be used to deliver phones and drugs into prisons as they have they could as easily deliver pistols and explosives. Easier than files in cakes

What's worse is that it would be nigh-impossible to actually prevent someone from flying a drone (or multiple drones) into places like Heathrow even if tougher laws were enacted to curtail use. Some sort of electronic countermeasures seem in order, but how to do it without interfering with the vital functions of the airport?

Sarcasm. Airports are in urban areas ao a shoot down wint work. The dutch are training birds to hunt drones though.

In general considered unrealistic - the bird is in danger of being sliced by the props. Moreover they are training eagles - raptors which only hunt in daylight. Need to train owls to handle night time - borrrow Harry Potter's?

In the UK remote control vehicles are are only allowed allowed to operate in a few frequencies. Equipment exists to jam these because the Army used it to jam them in Northern Ireland when the IRA tried to use remote control servos and hand sets to make command detonated bombs.

Apparently owls are stupid and hard to train.

Other plan is to legstate and put so mutch paper work in to owing a dron has to make it to bloody diffcult and expensive for a Yobo to own one.
