  • Je suis Böhmermann

Erdogan is trying to intimidate German Humorist(s), after he dismantled whatever was left of the Turkish free media. By massively cracking down on his critiques in Germany, using German courts. Merkel desperately needs Erdogan with the refugee deal. Her reaction would be interesting to observe, if there will be any.

Apparently the project to "Europeanise" Turkey is over. We are now seeing the "Turkification" of Europe.

What's sad is that this sort of thing has occurred in recent history, and not even Turkish related either - remember the Italian comedian threatened with prosecution by authorities for her jokes about the Pope in 2008?

Then you have the Muhammed cartoon scandal... the attack on Charlie Hebdo...

Humor is dangerous business in Europe.

In the US even more so.

John, is violation of this law prosecuted very often? How do the Germans you talk to during the course of the day feel about this?

It all seems very foreign to me, and with good reason.

Correction, it's actually Paragraph 103. My apologies.

If you lie down with dogs, you shall get up with fleas." Merkel's vast miscalculations on the migrant crisis left her (and by extension, everyone in the EU) to blackmail by a fascist dictator. She probably hoped not to get up from the level she sank to with Erdogan without too many fleas - another huge miscalculation on her part. As Mr. Lincoln said, "You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all of the time." And that is what Merkel hoped her deal with Turkey would do: fool everyone. Rather, it fooled no one. Meanwhile, Frontex STILL has not secured the EU's external borders, and the AfD in a survey last week hit a record 14% in the polls, while the SPD sank below 20% for the first time. I wonder why?

I am amazed how suprised many Germans are that something like that happens. It is not a secret that freedom of speech in the BRD is a farce. But i am glad they go after Böhmermann as i hate him with a passion for other reasons. Merkel got a huge hit to ehr reputation and the Turks are mad as hell. My conclusion: Many positive things are coming from this happening.
