  • FBI warned Brussels of terrorist attacks.

(on second thought, these idiots should not be trusted with weapons)

The FBI notified the Netherlands about its concerns over suicide bombers Ibrahim El Bakraoui and his brother Khalid six days before the Brussels attacks, the Dutch justice minister revealed Tuesday.

Dutch officials the next day passed on to Belgium the information provided by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, which had placed Ibrahim El Bakraoui on a terror watchlist in September 2015.

Answering questions in the Dutch parliament, the minister Ard van der Steur said Dutch police had received an FBI report sent March 16 “in which there was notification of Ibrahim El Bakraoui and his brother Khalid’s criminal backgrounds and Khalid’s terrorist background.”

The following day “the issue came up during bilateral contact between the Dutch and Belgian police,” said Van der Steur. “The radical background of both the brothers was discussed.”

He also confirmed US reports about Ibrahim being on a US terror list, saying he “was placed on an American surveillance list on September 25, 2015, a list made by the FBI terrorist screening centre.”

Ibrahim El Bakraoui was one of two bombers who blew themselves up at Brussels airport on March 22.

Wait, are you saying US surveillance did something good? That can't be...
Any man can hold his place when the bands play and women throw flowers; it is when the enemy presses close and metal shears through the ranks that one can acertain which are soldiers, and which are not.

Information is only good if you take action on it. I can only imagine how many attacks have been intercepted by British and US intelligence agencies.

Yes like the action we took when the Russians warned us about one of the Tsarnaev brothers, I wish that people in the media would stop pointing the finger at other countries intelligence failures looking for a scapegoat, we have had a few of them as well.

The Dutch minister ( a bungler) is wrong :Holland was not warned by the FBI but by the NYPD and Brussels was not warned .

Besides, even if Brussels was warned by the Dutch/the NYPD, nothing could have stopped the attacks .

IMO, most terror attacks are the result of intelligence failures.

No : they are caused by the inability/unwillingness of the authorities to do something when they receive warnings .

Brussels Airport is still closed ,with big economic losses, main reason for the closure being security ,or better the absence of security : Brussels Airport is swarming with Muslims condemned for criminal offences and who have a badge that allows them to go in cockpits of aircraft . Police has signalled this, but there were no reactions .And it will be very difficult to fire them, the unions and the liberals and muslim lobby will shout : discrimination, and given the attitude of the courts, dismissal will be impossible .

Yesterday, a Muslim working in the canteen of the police of Antwerp, was caught eavesdropping and it appeared that he had a past of possible terrorist .

Following the police there are at least 50 ISIS sympathizers working at Brussels Airport .

Brussels isn't in the Netherlands. Your topic title isn't supported in your own link.

That's a very serious accusation. I'm not disagreeing with you but have you a link to back it up?

This is the original source - a statement from the Police union where they lash out at the commercial operator of Brussels Airport in regard to lack of security, and screening of personnel.

Somewhat short on time, I can translate if need be.

And what to think about what happened at the emergency centre of the ministry of home affairs : one of the wounded was an Israeli, and a Jewish volunteer did a phone call to the centre to give additional information and papers, when he said that the wounded man lived in Israel, the Muslim who answered the call snapped at him : Israel does not exist, it is Palestine .

Of course this SOB has not been fired .

                            Title in Dutch :

"Sommige medewerkers van het luchthavenpersoneel stonden te juichen na aanslagen Parijs " zegt top politievakbond .

Translation : the chief of the liberal police union is saying that several people who work at Brussels Airport were jubilating after the attacks in Paris .

No further commentary is needed .

We know who are our enemies and where they are .

No they are the result of terrorists and extremists. The big problem that many security services have is not lack of intelligence but too much and too few resources to follow everything up so they have to try and pick the reports that are a] most credible b] most serious c] most imminent and unfortunately they don't always succeed in getting all three dead right. This requires assessing what is rumour and where there is real concrete evidence. This is not always helped by the fact that many security services are happy to pass on warnings but less eager to reveal the source (and therefore the credibility) of the information. Subversive organisations are not above spreading false intelligence to confuse and dilute security efforts deliberately creating "wolf wolf" situations. Britain's security services have, due to the various IRA campaigns, more than forty years of experience in detecting and disrupting terrorist activities on the UK mainland but still occasionally one slips through. Smaller and less experienced security services are likely to be less able to succeed. On the whole it seems rather facile to sit in comfort and point fingers

BTW Half Pint John - Whilst Belgium isn't in the Dutch Netherlands it is part of the Low Countries (trans Netherlands) and the two countries do have a history of co operation in these matters
