  • Naval Force Transits the South China Sea

I just read about an international naval force that sailed through the SCS in May. I find it interesting in a couple of ways. First, it was composed of some countries who might not have stepped up a few years ago. The second is that it wasn't dominated by US ships. Along with the USN Burke-class USS William P Lawrence, it included a Japanese destroyer and helicopter carrier, an Indian destroyer and replenishment ship and a Filipino patrol ship. So two countries had a larger presence than the USN. It reminded me of a few months ago when NATO sent three ships from Spain, Canada and the Netherlands into the Black Sea. It shows unity and that others besides the US are concerned.
