  • The Russians are at it Again...

Trying to intimidate the US Navy is a great mistake:

Or, the Russian navy ought to learn how to drive...
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are we are; One equal temper of heroic hearts
Made weak by time and fate but strong in will
To strive to seek to find and not to yield.

Wake shows clearly that Russian ship was forced to avoid collision. After collisions involving USS McCain and USS Fitzgerald, US Navy is again demonstrating poor skills...

Oh, yes - big deal. To my knowledge vessels approaching from starboard have the right of way. That said, the Russian crew didn't care much, sunbathing on the aft deck:

And which picture are you looking at?

The photo(s) taken from one of the American cruiser's helicopters clearly shows that the Russian destroyer was behind the American cruiser and was turning towards her. The US warship was recovering aircraft and for that you have to be on a steady course forward.

Ever been to sea on a warship?

The evidence is against the Russian ship.

Picture in the article. Russian ship turned to avoid collision while it should have been done by US ship. Russian ship was at starboard and has the priority.

              2 questions:

              1) The US Ship was in Aircraft Recovery Operations, meaning that it has far reduced maneuverability while that's going on.

              2) Why were the ships that close together in the first place, were they in a strait or other narrow sealane, or was one ship or the other purposely doing a close approach to the other in the sort of ritual dick-beating that happens between rival naval powers?

                1. Russian ship wasn't supposed to know that.

                2. Russian ship was observing the US navy. Maybe it made a provocative move. But US also likes to this kind of stuff like it did in Soviet territorial waters in 1988 or like it's happening now in Chinese sea.

What the Russian ship was doing was reckless and could have caused a collision. As the US ship's aircraft were close enough to photograph the two ships, showing what the Russian ship was actually doing, they were completely visible from the Russian ship, including from their bridge. If they didn't see the helicopters then they were asleep and not doing what they should have been. The other option, apart from stupidity on the part of the Russians, was that it was a deliberate provocation.

Further, the aircraft were visible to the Russian sailors sunbathing on the fantail.

I'm so confused, why aren't you taking the side of Putin against Trump? I thought you were on the side of the enemies of America. Seriously, you've have a proven track record of sedition. I consider you a traitor to this nation. Sorry, a honest opinion.

How were they supposed to know that helicopters were landing if they were filming the ships ? Nothing prevented the cruiser from stopping and take the helis.

You've never been to sea, now have you? The ship does not stop when taking aircraft aboard. They move at a standard safe speed in a straight line.

When I was aboard an amphibious ship en route to the Philippines some time ago, there was a then Soviet naval trawler that was approaching our ship in a curved course from port (that's the left side of the ship). He (the Russians refer to their ships in the male gender) did not approach as close as this Russian destroyer did, but it was the same type of approach to get a closer look at us. He was an intelligence trawler flying the Russian naval ensign and was studded with antennas. He was supposed to look like a fishing trawler, but the naval ensign and antennas gave him away.

The Russians pull this crap all the time and it is nothing new to them.

Then they should not complain when somebody crosses their path. There are priorities while navigating in the sea. It's not the cruiser didn't seen that another ship was coming close and it had the priority.
