  • Giant haka honours fallen NZ soldiers.

I have never seen this before, but I must confess it was quite moving to watch. RIP mates.

The bodies of three New Zealand soldiers killed in Afghanistan were welcomed home with a giant haka in Christchurch on August 23.

The tribute to Corporal Luke Tamatea, Lance Corporal Jacinda Baker and Private Richard Harris was performed by approximately 200 military personnel.

    Very impressive....
    My worst jump story:
My 13th jump was on the 13th day of the month, aircraft number 013.

Like I said on FB, always good to see nations that still honor their warriors.

        A beautiful tribute indeed.
You, the mothers, who sent their sons from faraway countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace, after having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.

I must confess it did for me too.

            It hits close to home.

For me, the silence after the haka is intense.

What an awesome tribute by the New Zealanders. It reflects their unique culture and their esprit de corps.

                Godspeed, mate.

Much respect here for our ANZAC allies.

                  Very moving.

                    Sad. Another senseless death.

Just a question for our NZ members: why is there an armed and suited sniper? Is he part of the security? (he's the only one armed that I saw in the video)

I had the impression at least one of the KIA soldiers was a sniper.

I took it as a sort of sniper honor guard.

                      Not sure though...

Yes, according to the NZDF one of the men killed was a sniper.

All three soldiers were from the 2nd Battalion of the Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment. Corporal Luke Tamatea, Lance Corporal Jacinda Baker and Private Matthew Harris - Lance Corporal Baker, a medic, is unfortunately our first female casualty in Afghanistan.
