New Site - PLEASE READ

Hello All,
My name is Ashley and I am the one that moved the forum to its new hosting location. This was done for security reasons and try to keep the forum from going down every other day. I understand that the new forum looks very different from the old one but I promise almost everything you had before you still have it might just be in a different place.

Items that are gone due to a limitation of the new hosting/ forum update:
- Awards
- Flags

As I was going thought your posts I was able to fix a lot fo the issues you were listing. Below is kind of a running list of issues an what is fixed and what I am still working on.

Items that I have fixed from your comments:
- Smilie are now working.
- Color/Theme changes
- Signature are now showing up. (Here is how to edit them https://screencast.com/t/OJHzzhiV1)
- Ranking is now showing up.
- Private messaging is now working.

Some issues I am still working on are:
- Missing items from the Calendar
- Like button the posts is giving an error.

One other note I have seen a lot is theme/color related items. I know this is important to all of you but at the moment the most important thing was getting you back a functioning forum with as many features I can get you back from before.

Theme/color is something we can change but it the moment I do not have the time and resources to fix all of the issue and design the site. I did do some theme updates yesterday but it is very time consuming. Please just be patient with the forum as we get it back to as close as I can to what you had before.

If anyone has any issues that they are running in to please let me know in the post below. Please give me as much detail as possible .

I agree, a bit of too much imagination and not enough research by the journalist

    The wrong shade of black?

      • Chad's President Idriss Deby has said the fight against Boko Haram militants is being hampered by poor co-ordination between his country and Nigeria.
Mr Deby said that some progress had been made since Chad intervened against the Islamist insurgents.
But had the two countries' armies worked together Boko Haram would have been wiped out by now, he said.

        • STTEP has been making huge gains, haven't they? Hundreds rescued, sadly of whom 90% are "obviously pregnant". (Maybe the other 10% are still in the early stages so it's not yet obvious)

          • Nigeria has banned all cars, public transport, horses, donkeys and camels in Borno state to prevent an attack by militant group Boko Haram over the Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday.
The ban came into effect on Wednesday evening and lasts until Friday.
Borno is where the Boko Haram insurgency began and on Sunday at least 54 people died in a triple bombing in the state capital Maiduguri.

"Koevoet" in Dutch means Breaking Iron (as well as "one foot of a cow" obviously) -

Same in in Afrikaans ? If so it's a very suitable name for a policing unit

                • Some 200 members of the Boko Haram Islamist militant group have given themselves up, in the biggest such surrender, Nigeria's army says.
The fighters are said to have handed themselves over in the town of Banki on the border with Cameroon.
The military earlier said the town had been recaptured from Boko Haram but there is no independent confirmation.
Some 17,000 people are said to have been killed in the six-year insurgency, mainly in northern Nigeria.

                  • Nigeria's military has announced a reprieve for 66 soldiers who had been sentenced to death for refusing to fight Boko Haram.
The soldiers, who were to be killed by a firing squad, will each serve 10 years in prison.
They were convicted by court martial over their refusal to drive down a road at night after dozens of colleagues died in a Boko Haram ambush.

                        • Sergio's quote above reminds me that, in traditional Maori warrior society, their view of running from a battle was quite different.

They saw punishment for such behaviour as counter-productive.

Because the society they lived in placed bravery on a battlefield at a fairly high level, those that ran were mostly in a minority. It was bad for their MANA (dignity)

However, when Europeans arrived, and the Maori observed them putting to death or punishing those that ran, their attitude was...

"Let them run. Later on, when the shock has passed, and they are shamed by their people for their actions, they will fight twice as hard at the next encounter to recover their good name and dignity."

                          Its a wise policy.

The Nigerians should take a leaf from the Maori way of doing things when fighting enemies. Imprisonment or execution merely gives them one choice of death over another choice of death, and decides the issue for them. They will always run if the circumstances warrant it, and they feel they can get away.

Rules for Brushfire Wars of this scale should be the same as the small scale tribal fighting of the Maori. Obviously, the Nigerian government and military feel differently.

Mind you, on a large scale, (like the Eastern Front in WW2), these attitudes do not work so well. The more people involved, especially coming from a society like the Russians have, with the attitude that "Mother Russia has sons enough", engenders a more direct brutality for a mass audience. In a society with many people, its far easier to disappear into that society, and seek out like minded people who have no such moral rules of engagement, little caring that the deserter ran.

                          • NIGERIA:

12 high ranking Nigerian officers, including 6 generals, have today come under the observation of nigerian "authorities" for embezzelment of Army funding, (running into millions of american dollar), allocated to Nigeria by foriegn governments for the purpose of buying equipment for the Army, so that it may continue its "fight" against Boko Haram.

The accused have been cited as funnelling the said monies into their own bank accounts.

Another example of Africans "helping themselves".

With this sort of attitude from the "legitimate government, is it any wonder Boko haram still does basically as it pleases in Nigeria.

And I suppose the African Union, (I got it right this time), will sit on its haunches and do NOTHING as per usual, blaming as many others as possible, and a lack of funds, for their inaction to deal with nigeria's self imposed problems.

If this is an example of Africa "Doing Bloody well", then no wonder all the rich and educated want to leave the place.

                            disgraceful.
