  • The Sinking of the Laconia - BBC2

    Did anyone else catch this?

It's a two parter - 3 hours in total and what I saw (just a few minutes) looked pretty good. 2nd part is on BBC2 tonight at 9pm and the first part is up on iplayer:

Two-part drama based on the true story of the Allied ship Laconia, sunk in WWII by a German U-Boat, which then surfaced against orders to rescue the civilian crew

Written by Alan Bleasdale, I've had a look at the reviews this morning and they are mixed. I quite enjoyed what I saw ... apart from a couple of dodgy German accents, which is odd as it's an Anglo-German production with Germans in the cast.

Definitely worth a watch though - such an incredible and tragic story.

Here's the Telegraph review for anyone interested .. with some links to clips.

Several of my friends on a German Navy forum caught it and said it was well-done. I'm interested in seeing it myself, but I'll have to wait for the DVD.
