But IMHO, the character created Sean Waltman heat, and as a general rule, I changed the channel when Waltman got on the mic.
I wouldn't call her annoying.... she is intelligent.... maybe a bit mouthy but what woman isn't?

Saw it tonight. Very good. Damon wasn't all that good, but the role is also smaller than in the original. The girl is really good -- really the star of the film.

I enjoyed it; didn't expect it to be that good.

I very much enjoyed the film. All the performances were strong and the movie went by quite quickly. Bridges did a great job IMHO.

                Vince,

Since you liked the new one, try and rent the old one. What I like now about the original is Kim Darby was not that pretty. Kind of what you might find in an Arkansas Farm Girl back then. Nowadays they use too many pretty people in re-shooting old films.

What sort of ticks me off is this: All of the "advertising" for the move done by the actors and others have made little or no mention of the original move with John Wayne; the only movie Wayne won an Oscar for. I realize that this is "their" movie, but damn it I would have at least expected some recognition for the "Duke". Guess I'm getting old and senile and expect too much from egotistical Hollywood.

I started watching this version knowing that it was not going to be the original. I have also read the novel a couple of times. I was quite pleased with how the story was told this time around. An admirable job done by all (Matt Damon not so much), but I enjoyed it and would see it again.

I was impressed. But you have to admit,Damon did what he could. Campbell was a first time actor in the original. He hadn't acted before. Damon was doing totally foreign territory to him. He wasn't bad. I expected more. But he didn't 'phone it in'

The girl who played Mattie was excellent,as was Bridges-that I expect, and Josh Brolin as Chaney was excellent-that I expect too. I was certainly surprised how Bridges took on Cogburn. It was an excellent film and how they ended it. Was a surprise to me,and how they aged Mattie and how she went and got Rooster. That was something else altogether.
If it weren't for The Kings Speech-Bridges and this film-would have won the Oscars. My 2c
