  • War Picture With Best Characters?

What's the war movie with the characters so awesome you won't forget them for the rest of your life? For me it's The Great Escape. Here are some of my all-time favs:

    Group Captain Ramsey, RAF

    Captain Virgil Hilts, USAF

Flying Officer Archibald 'Archie' Ives RAF

    Flight Lieutenant Colin Blythe RAF

    Squadron Leader Roger Bartlett, RAF

    Oberst von Luger, Luftwaffe

I don't think any film could touch Kelly's Heroes in this department.

    Kelly,Big Joe,Oddball,Crapgame,General Colt,Babra,Willard,Captain Maitland,Bellamy.Pretty much the whole cast.

I've sen all of the above more than once, countless times would be closer to the fact.

Perhaps while it is a newer film it's going to be SPR or BoB's.

Destiny of a Man, and Bondarchuk Sr., of course. I'm not too original here - stellar acting and stellar directing, all by one man.

Great call Nick. Its one of my favorites. Still, I question casting 55-year-old John Wayne as 27-year-old Benjamin Vandervoort. There had to be a more age-realistic spot to cast the Duke.

Honestly, I've always been bored by that movie. It's cult and all, but just not for my taste.
