  • The Founding of a Republic (2009 film)

The Founding of a Republic (simplified Chinese: 建国大业; traditional Chinese: 建國大業; pinyin: Jingo dy; literally "The Great Cause of Founding a Country") is a historical film to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the People's Republic of China. I found it available in widescreen Hi-Res for free on YouTube. (I enjoyed the CGI animations of period warplanes.)

Details and supplemental notes available through the YouTube playlist, at:

Another film available on YouTube, which is a must see, is The East is Red (simplified Chinese: 东方红). Produced in 1964, this was tough to find during the Cold War, and even after. I think it's a magnificent production. Here's the URL for Part 1 of 12:

edit: Argh, this should probably be moved to the category containing war films and documentaries. Sorry.

Any metaphor will tear if stretched over too much reality.

If the art of war were nothing but the art of avoiding risks, glory would become the prey of mediocre minds. Napoleon
