  • Revolutionary War Movie...

Today my son asked if there was a good movie on this topic. As I thought about it; I was stumped. Nothing came to mind. Mel Gibson did his, but that was mainly a revenge pic set in that time.

Too bad George C. Scott didn't do a Gen. George Washington flick also. He could then have had a hat trick by doing Custer! Heck maybe even The Duke. OK, not him; though it would've been funny.

Any suggestions for my young (10) history buff?

      Give "John Adams" a try.

The Crossing, Johnny Tremain, John Adams as stated above......Valley Forge if you can find it.

I believe it was called The Crossing, about Washington defeating the Hessians. I thought it was well done and portrayed the desperation of the Continental Army.

A couple apart from the excellent 'John Adams' i can think would be Revolution, not sure if you can class this as good.

              Revolution (1985)

or George Washington with Barry Bostwick in the title role.

              "George Washington" (1984)

              Never Fear the Event

              Admiral Lord Nelson

Yeah, I'd forgotten about that one. I think I liked it.

In the 1950s there was a movie about John Paul Jones called John Paul Jones. I think Cornel Wilde was in it.

                    There's 1776, and I don't mean the musical version.

The Crossing was pretty good. John Adams was excellent.

Another fave of mine is Drums Along The Mohawk.

There is a non-musical version? May be a film I was looking for that came out around 1976. Remember seeing it as a kid in school.
