I have another one. Six days of the Condor was made into a film called "Three days of the Condor" The bird lost three days but gained a much better treatment in the film.

The movie Last of the Mohicans is one of the best, superb, but the book is thick and slow. I saw the film first and based on that plus years of watching MASH I had really high expectations of the book, but it failed to deliver.

I found the book a hard read the first time around, and Mark Twain's commentary in James Fenimore Cooper makes it harder to like.

Cross of Iron, is one I would have to say the film is better than the book. Battle Cry is a second choice. I hated the book and almost hated the movie.
