Perhaps, the film creators managed to feel the American public perception of the USSR and Cold War that would lead Ronald Reagan to power in a few years.

Allegory, is not really a genre for a right-wing cold war message anyway, that was usually presented outright, and in really funny ways too, see Red Dawn, Invasion USA, etc.

Darth Vader....German helmet, all-black uniform....stormtroopers....clearly, he's supposed to represent Scientology.

If we get back on topic, I will post another video for this thread, mes enfants terribles.....

I always felt that the Rebels were Socialists and the only Right-Wing Hawk would be Han Solo and his lot. Capitalists if ever there were any!

Can we just pretend we're back on topic?

Or do we need to fight some more?

Reagan? You should be talking about "Return of the Jedi" then since it came out in 1983. Where Jubba The Hutt is a greedy capitalist who is killed and Darth Vader turns out to actually be Luke Skywalker's father.

Han is nihilistic, at first anyway. If anyone is warmongering it is the Empire, and Jubba is the stereotypical greedy capitalist.

Actually Jabba is a drug lord/smuggler/loan shark/bookie who turned to crime because his race the Hutts were forced into a slavery by the Empire. Entire generations of Hutts never saw the light of day again as they lived out their lives as miners.

                        Ummm.....

The Hutts originated on a forest planet called Varl, in a binary star system consisting of the two stars Evona and Ardos, which the Hutts worshiped as gods. According to Hutt legend, Evona was absorbed by a black hole, and Ardos collapsed on itself over grief for its mate. Since the Hutts survived the deaths of their Gods, they believed they had become Gods, hence their egocentrism. Scientists believe the Hutts destroyed their world in a civil war.
After Varl's devastation, the Hutts migrated to a planet called Evocar, and displaced the peaceful natives through canny business practices, even going so far as to evict them. The Hutts renamed their new planet Nal Hutta—"Glorious Jewel" in Huttese. Nal Hutta is the capital of Hutt Space, the species' empire. The primary moon of Nal Hutta is Nar Shaddaa.
Before the establishment of the Old Republic, the Hutts were the dominant species in the galaxy, although they never built up an extensive empire; their dominance focused instead on trade and economic empires.
                        [edit]

I guess I included Jabba, Boba Fett, and Lando in my "Han & his lot" quote.

You gotta read some of those other novels "based on Star Wars".

CANNES, France (CNN) -- "Star Wars" director George Lucas says that although he wrote the original film during the Vietnam War, his six-part saga could apply to the war in Iraq.

''In terms of evil, one of the original concepts was how does a democracy turn itself into a dictatorship,'' Lucas told a news conference at Cannes, where his final episode had its world premiere.

''The parallels between what we did in Vietnam and what we're doing in Iraq now are unbelievable.

                              ..."

Well, that's George Lucas for you.

The irony of giving the Star Wars a socialist interpretation is that it turns out to be one-heck of a money spinner, with endless lines of toys, costumes, T-shirts, TV specials, etc. And George Lucas is the one that profits most from all this.

Socialists can continue to dream, while capitalists pretend to be socialists and profit from them.
