But I don't go to the theatre. I watch at home on my nice big screen, and my Audio-Technica headphones, with plenty of beer.

Just finished watching Man of Steel and B vs S back to back yesterday.

    Excellent movies.
The version I watched was 3 hours. It appears that there is a real difference between the cinema and extended dvd versions of BM v SM, a bit like Aliens.

Plenty of Beer tends to be a good idea at the end of the day most of the time .

Pretty much. It's just a terrible movie.

On a positive note I just re-watched Iron Sky. That's good film and quite funny.

      • Watched Raiders yesterday, so have just finished Temple of Doom. Hasn't aged nearly as well. It is clear that special effects were used to try to make the film more exciting than the first, and even if you believed it then, you won't believe it now. Still enjoyed it though, and No 3 tomorrow. Have yet to decide whether its worth buying No 4.

OK. I guess Redbox only has the regular version.

That is because you guys probably wanted something that the movie is not. It is unrealistic militarily and historically. It was a romance adventure just like Pearl Harbor and nothing more. If you accept those kind of movies for what they are, then they become much more enjoyable.

Redbox only does the cheapest version, most of the videos do not even have the disc artwork - those versions are burned by them under license on a blank disc and are not digitized from a master by the studio. Their versions are also more heavily edited according to family values - just like Blockbuster back in the old days.

            • Sal,

No, that wasn't it on Top Gun. It was the macho posturing, stilted dialogue and just plain idiotic story that turned me off to it. I wasn't looking for military realism in the movies I watched when I was 23. Just a good action movie which Top Gun is not. It was and remains a POS.

So where can I rent the good versions? Amazon?

                  • Just watched The Machine made in 2013. Basically a low budget Welsh version of Ex Machina, except it was first .

Enjoyable film, although probably better as a weekday treat, rather than a weekend blockbuster.

Great story, and great acting made up for a lack of budget, which I believe actually improved the film. A more aggressive and explosive finale may have made the film more entertaining, but the very last shot really left food for thought.

Good, bordering on great, 3-4 star film.

I went into this with prejudice. I haven't seen a proper outlay of what the early church was about. This one isn't bad. The acting is a bit wooden but its not all that bad...

A really intelligent and watchable film.
