  • Help - Trying to remember title of a war movie taking place in the pacific

It was a black & white movie, WW2 Americans vs Japanese, maybe a platoon of Americans are on the island and have to get to the other side of the island? A Japanese sniper is slowly picking off the men until someone gets a lucky shot and kills the sniper. At the end of the movie they are rescued by reinforcements who arrive in gliders, along with paratroopers.

    Thanks for help

Where would you land a glider on a Pacific Island, and where would the tow planes come from?

    Have yo "asked Google"?

I have been trying, I don't know if it might be "Battle Cry" 1955 with Aldo Ray but I don't think so. Trying to download a copy to watch.

I know, seemed sorta an American hurrah moment, we have this new technology and tactics sorta thing. I hate say sorta propaganda like. I had watched the film really late one night when I was young (12?) just wanted to find what movie it was.

Here's a news reel of the only US use of gliders in the Central Pacific.

Maybe the fictional movie is based around action in the Philippines

Hmmm I don't remember it being a John Wayne film "Back to Bataan" 1945, but could fit. Trying to download a copy.

Back to Bataan is a 1945 American black-and-white World War II war film drama from RKO Radio Pictures, produced by Robert Fellows, directed by Edward Dmytryk, that stars John Wayne and Anthony Quinn.[3] The film depicts events (some fictionalized and some actual) that took place after the Battle of Bataan (1941–42) on the island of Luzon in the Philippines.

Watched a bit of "Back to Bataan" it wasn't the movie. I think now it might be "Marine Raiders" an old RKO war film
                  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marine_Raiders_(film)

In a fictional assault that a map identifies as Bougainville, Craig's Paramarines jump behind Japanese lines to relieve pressure on a beachhead where Lockhart's Raiders and other Marines have landed.

Building my WW2 Pacific Theater war films, waiting for 1943 "Bataan", 1943 "Gung Ho!" and 1959 "Never so Few" to download. Digging everywhere on the internet to find a copy of "1944 Marine Raiders"

                    collection so far
