    Good question. Probably supposed to add to the ambience, plus it saves a lot of money on being precise since the audience cant see much to begin with.

    I've watched a couple, or tried to, at home and been unable to adequately see the action at all.

    Though this might come damned close...
    Why are all the big budget movies filmed in the dark?
    The goodies are tootling along in daylight, a baddie pops up, in the blink of an eye it's pitch black, the ear splitting music starts and all hell breaks loose!
