I'm confused - who is fighting against the VC? There are Americans, Australians and who knows what else in there.

Not an American in sight- at least not in the trailer. (except the USAF F-4 Phantoms in support)
The film is supposed to depict the epic Battle of Long Tan, Vietnam, where elements of 6 Bn Royal Australian Regiment prevailed
      against overwhelming odds .

Ah, so...grasshopper. With all of the American weapons and all, and a lot of non-Aussie accents, it got a little confusing.

I did see at least one Owen SMG and a FN.

And a lot of M-16's, which were issued only to scouts and select personnel in '66. I believe the L1A (?) was the primary infantry rifle.

This is just one platoon. Many individual weapons would make an ammo re-supply complicated. I have read at least one story where the unit was given a re-supply that was heavy on 30x6 ammo and no 7.62x51. The ARVN unit's BAR's were the only ones that could fire the ammo sent! No 5.56 or 7.62!

Looking forward to seeing it. Reminds of "We Were Soldiers", but without the home front stuff.

L1A1 (FN) was the standard rifle until replaced by the Steyr AUG. The M16 was widely used and also the Owen and ,later ,the F1 SMG. THe Section GPMG was the M30 (horrible weapon- at least in its original form), although many prefered the 7.62 BREN

At this time the ARVN was still equipped with the M1!

It might have been a Mike Force or Ranger unit.
