I'll stick to Combat and Tour of Duty. Conflicts that I havent been in are more entertaining on TV.

Rat Patrol as a show, was like watching the Bay Watch of war series though

It was in colour Combat was black and white. Rat Patrol was cool action and guys shooting weapons that while silly were fun looking silly. Combat was a bit grittier.

I am amused though, that I have both. I also have all 3 seasons of Combat (yumm).
Aries, I'd agree that Combat was better than Rat Patrol, but I still have fond childhood memories of both.

BTW, there were five seasons of Combat, the first four in black and white, the last one in color. They are now available on DVD, but if you're cheap (like me) they are shown regularly on the Encore Action channel on cable/satellite. I think I've recorded about 140 of the 155 episodes.

For fans of the show here is a great link.....

I remember they kept showing ads for it when I first got the extra cable channels. It was coming on about noon and then replayed later that nite and the ads were in color. I couldn't remember ever seeing any episodes in color though.

Combat was a clear winner where I grew up.

All I remember from Rat Patrol was the entry scene with the jeeps flying over the sand dunes -- I'm not sure I ever saw a whole show.

Combat, though, was an opportunity for a gathering. I was a little goober back then, and had to be home when it got dark, unless it was a Combat night. My town was so big there were not one, not two, but THREE boys my age, and all three of us got together at every week to watch Rick Jameson and Vic Morrow fight the Germans. We seldom missed an episode and we all had our favorite characters -- mine was Kirby, but I don't recall why any more.

Janos, it was very simular in my neighborhood. Admittedly there are the typical innaccuracies (ie, 60's era American tanks for German panzers), but given a TV budget that made 31 episodes a year it was quite well done. Certainly some episodes where better than others, but out of 155 episodes close to 100 are excellent and there are at most 20 "clunkers'. The list of quest stars is incredible, as is the list of directors with Vic Morrow directing some of the best episodes. After forty years it holds up remarkably well.

I thought I remembered that actor from my childhood. Rat Patrol might be cheesy now but when I was 8 years old, those Guys were my heroes!!
