  • World at War on DVD

    I'm about to purchase this set on DVD. I've already eliminated Blue Ray as an option due to cropping.

    Apparently there are a few DVD sets on Amazon. Anyone here purchase a set, and which one do you have?

    I've read some bad things about audio quality on the A&E produced 11 disc set.

    I read the reviews on Amazon and the main problem appears to be the cropping.

    But this review seems to be the most level-headed and from 'of all places' the Guardian Newspaper But that said, I would go by this review and buy it.

    Or with a bauble or medal
    Can win mans heart for you;
    And many a blessing know to stew
    To make a megloamaniac bright;
    Give honour to the dainty Corse,
    The Pixie is a little shite.

      I may. There's a 7 disc DVD set that's more recent than the 11 disc A&E set. I'm wondering what the quality is on that one. The Amazon reviews aren't specific.

        But the reviewed set above has bonus documentaries with it.

        "As extras you get the three 1-hour programs about Germany under Hitler rarely broadcast or seen after the original TV screening in the 1970s, and a 2-part documentary telling the story of ‘The Final Solution’ including some illuminating insights into the cult of the SS (this 2-hour film however is not narrated by Laurence Olivier)"

        Seems to me that the 7 dvd set is as above but without the extras, and the one reviewed in the link above is a 9 disc set.

          I saw some of the Blue Ray stuff on youtube. Looks and sounds great. I think I can deal with the cropping.

              It is also available on YouTube - obviously quality, lack of features, etc. Might save some cash if you are not too fussed about that stuff.

                This is a great series, but really needs a serious update concerning the Eastern Front, now that the Russian archives are open.

                      True, but it's still a classic. I grew up with this series.

                      I know I could just watch it on Youtube, but I'd rather have it in the collection.
