Had a distant cousin who was in the navy getting men off the beaches in 1940 and putting them back on in 1944. He was very matter of fact about both (although the 2nd occasion did cost him a lot of his hearing and an interesting scar). He was very matter of fact about both (but then he was a Yorkshireman), in response to films, TV documentaries etc about both he only had one comment "well they weren't there were they?".

Already been done, and we already know the ending. Besides that, there is more than ample wartime footage of the event.

            I'll give it a pass.

              Have you seen "Interstellar"?
It's from the same director ,C.Nolan.
If he can give the same epic spirit to "Dunkirk", then it's gonna be a hit.
And btw ,I made a thread recently about this movie with some pics here

I hope they have the sound under control for this movie. Interstellar was hopeless.

Have to admit ,in spite of the admiration I have for this movie ,that it sucks ,soundly speaking.
Hard to understand.Even the cd soundtracks is a pain in the ass when you want to balance it decently. The French version corrected the problem but nothing can beat the original version in English.

                    YEEESSSS !!
I was looking for pics of the french soldiers on the set and was a bit afraid that their heroic resistance was absent , but apparently not .

Some impressive pics of the set

That will be an interesting story to be seen on the movie screen.

Like SB76, I would have been disappointed not seeing any part of the story showing the heroic French units holding against the German during the evacuation, but apparently there is.

                        Great stuff ...

... from the set, including some 95 pictures:

Christopher Nolan marshals an army of 1,500 extras as he recreates evacuation of 330,000 soldiers for World War II epic Dunkirk with high-flying wire stunts from a crane... while young actor Fionn Whitehead shoots first scenes

Allied soldiers were evacuated from Dunkirk in just one week and saved from surrounding German forces in 1940

Stars Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance and former One Direction member Harry Styles

Cut-out soldiers were used in place of real actors along with cut out trucks to give the illusion of a bigger crowd

A French T-47 Class Destroyer, the Maillé-Brézé, was shipped in from Brittany to avoid the use of CGI

The evacuation nicknamed Operation Dynamo was described by Winston Churchill as a 'miracle of deliverance'

1,500 extras, a crane and a spitfire were used to recreate the miraculous evacuation of 333,000 allied troops

                          Over the fruitful earth
                          And athwart the seas

Wait for the movie. The spécial FX will work on it.
Oddly it looks rather like a Blackburn Skua rather than a Spit.
