    It's about to get weirder:

Giant boxing robots reality show unveiled by Syfy

Ready for the next generation of robot combat? Syfy has greenlit and shot the first season of a new show where eight-foot-tall state-of-the-art humanoid robots will rock ‘em and sock ‘em in a boxing cage until one is defeated.
Any metaphor will tear if stretched over too much reality.

Robot Wars was extremely interesting. a lot of skill and technology was involved in designing, building, and operating robots designed to destroy their opponents given the weight limit and power needed to complete a match.

Some of the most successful designs evolved around smashing axes, large cutting flywheels, a hydraulic powered crushing claw, and a lifting scoop that flips the opponent out of the ring.

It becomes a balance between attacking weaponry, maneuverability, and protective armor.

The battles are conducted in an arena with bullet resistant glass to protect the contestants operating the robots, the judges, and spectators from flying debris.
