I loved that, especially since Buffy is my favorite show. It's all true what the article says and I have thought it many times. I mean, who would want to be a normal teenager?

The part about Worf from Star Trek is so noticeable that the term "Worf Effect" entered movie lingo, as the name for the most basic plot trick to introduce a new character as dangerous: just have him defeat a known character with a reputation to be tough.

Obviously, when it gets overused it loses its purpose, as the known tough character is so frequently defeated he ends up being tough only by reputation and not actual feats. It happens on a hell of a lot of shows... Writers can't resist it, it's just too easy to use.
