That's about a year old, I think. The video diaries are very fun if you're into "how it was done" and teasers.

I'm looking forward to these movies very much.

                      Yes, I know that.

I'm talking about the character shown at 1:14. Who is that? And there's nothing wrong with Peter Jackson including him in the Hobbit at all. Its his adaptation after all.

Hmm, I guess he could be Radagast the Brown instead.

EDITED: NM, I looked into it and it is indeed Radagast.

Mr. Unwin gave the book to his eleven year old son to review and history was made by a school boy.

I did, and I enjoyed it.

Might be spoilers here so read carefully:

I haven't read the book in ages, and listened to the BBC radio version of it a few months ago. But, it seems to me that this movie included just about everything* from the book (up to the point where the movie ends), and ADDED a bunch of extra stuff. And I think all of the extra stuff was well done and needed to flush out a small book into a larger 3-part epic. None of it seemed out of place.

Overall, I didn't think the effects were as good as they could be, but it's a 3D movie that I didn't watch in 3D, and Jackson uses that fast frame rate to film stuff.

Oh, it was nearly 3 hours long.

I do have a beef with the different looks of the orcs/goblins now. Would have been nice if they stayed with the same theme for the monstrous races--better ties in the two trilogies to one another. And the trolls, as well as the Great Goblin, spoke too well for my taste. A bit more slurring or growling or something monster like would have been nice--the Great Goblin could have spoken at a university and been well-paid for it (considering the actor portraying him, in reality I'm not too surprised). And Orcrist doesn't look like an elf sword.

Other than these minor quibblings, I have no other problems with the movie, and plan on seeing it at least one more time, probably during Christmas break.

*I'm sure there are very minor and utterly unimportant things that were left out...such as the King of the Eagles speaking to Gandalf, which could very well happen in the next movie (did that happen in the book?).

Will wait for the last of the trilogy to come out on DVD, and then watch all six movies of The Hobbit and LOTR together. Hopefully I won't be put to sleep by the first LOTR this time.
