  • Darkest Summer

Just finished reading The Darkest Summer by Bill Sloan. I would highly recommend it as the finest book i've ever read on the Korean War and one of my favorite military history books ever. It tells the harrowing stories of soldiers and Marines who fought tooth and nail across the Korean Penninsula while also giving a big picture of the war as well as insight into the thinking of commanders. My grandfather served in Korea fighting with the 5th Marines from the Pusan Perimeter all the way through Inchon to the Chosin Resevoir. I found several parallels between stories he told me as a child and accounts from the book. I only wish he'd lived to read it. Highly recommended read.
