  • Osprey Publishing is way out of sync

Well I have grown bored of buying computer wargames. I thought I would resolve to start expanding my library. Osprey publishing has the books I like most.

Wish their prices has some contact with 2007-2008 though.

I looked at numerous titles on their home page, and you would think things were still back in 2005.

Any title you look at, the Canadian price is WAY higher than the US price.
I don't mind that sort of thing when my dollar is worth 70 cents US, but when the Canadian dollar is worth MORE than the US dollar, well I am not happy with 18.95 US 26.95 Canadian that's for sure.

It sucks, because I want to buy me some books. But I am not desperately in need of them, and my sensibilities simply won't tolerate being ripped off that much. Heck it would almost be cheaper to let a friend in Buffalo buy them for me and mail them here.

Not sure anyone here actually knows the real me.
    I didn't for a long time either.

Yep, that's what I do. I also be sure to buy enough to get the postage for free. You can also find deals in stores...I bought one recently in a nearby shop and got about 30% off.

Yep I'm on the mailing list too. I also use by discount flyers from Borders for Osprey books. I really think their regular prices are about $5.00 to high per volume.

Just order them from the US and pay US prices!!!!

This is not an issue, use a credit card and buy from amazon.com instead of amazon.ca.

I am new to visiting their site, but it's nice to hear they occasionally do sales, I will make them a regular visit.

I likely should consider eBay maybe finally too.
The Amazon.com as opposed to .ca idea sounds nice as well, will look into that.

You guys clearly thought this out a bit better than I did

I've bought a few through DoubleDay in the past, but they get them in so slow, and the titles rarely change too. Not to mention the prices are not what I call "awesome".

Originally I was thinking of just special ordering in a title a month or something via my local retailer, but was hoping to maybe see if I could find a more economical option.

                Wow

Someone at Osprey heard our call. They are having a buy 3 get a 4th free sale and also allowing all orders placed from Canada at 25% off to account for the exchange rate.
                This is no Joke!!!

Yes the their credit, I got an email today telling me the same. And getting a next day email response earns them points with me too.

                  I am amused

Hey, I know what you mean. The Singapore dollar is now only 1.40SGD to 1USD, and yet, bookstores here like Borders still seem to use a 2SGD to 1USD rate. That sucks. I just buy from Amazon.com nowadays. Even with the overseas postage rate, I still have a bargain. It's great to buy stuff from the US now - so much cheaper.

That sounds like a great solution to me...and I love their books as well. I also got the fourth book free deal and plan to take them up on it to buy myself some Christmas presents

Has anyone seen the Praeger Illustrated version of Osprey books?
The "Half-Price Books" stores in my area have tons of these small (Osprey size), hardcover books that are very similiar if not exactly the same as Osprey books. ($6 each)

In fact the Praeger Waterloo 1815 is almost page-for-page identical to my old Osprey Waterloo 1815: Birth of Modern Europe.

Looks like they are only "Campaign Series" types, I haven't seen any about uniforms, equipment, etc.

                          found an Amazon link:
                          http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_pg_2?...strated&page=2
