  • March Of Folly

Just started reading this last night. I know it's been around awhile but has anybody read this? It's by Barbara Tuchmann who also wrote "The Guns Of August" which is a very good book. So I thought I would read another by her. It's about how governments persist in policy that is detrimental to their interests. It uses Troy, the Reneissance Popes, the British during the American Revolution and the US in Vietnam to make her case. It seems very interesting.

    Thoughts? Reviews?

Not bad. The popes part was interesting. Some of these popes actually took up the sword, had affairs with women and fathered children and spent enormous amounts of money on art and other things. However they ignored every call for making the Church more reponsive to it's members. Which at the time, was just about everyone in Europe. Their "folly" led to Martin Luther and others rebelling and starting new churches.

The British part is even more interesting although I'm not done with that section yet. But they persisted in policies that created rebels where there were none before. Pretty good look at how the British government worked or didn't work, depending on your POV.

I'll post more when I finish the book.
