    Just finished "Gone for soldiers" it it reawakened my interest.

          Just remembered, also used and excellent monograph by the U.S. Army Center of Military History by Stephen A. Carney, "Gateway South: The Campaign for Monterrey". Available at the Center's online catalog. There may be other works on the Mexican--I was working on the battle at Monterrey for ACG What Next article on Taylor.
