  • Billy Boyle and inspector Pekkala

I just finished reading James r Benn's latest Installment of the WWII Mystery series 'Billy Boyle".
Boyule is a young Boston cop who is called up for duty in WWII. He is a distant relative of General Eisenhower and ends up as a special investigator on Ikes Staff. The series of books begons in England, goes to North Afrtica, Sicily, Italy and in the last book "The Rest is Silence', back in England in May 1944. The books alwys include intersting historical characters, such as Audie Murphy, Sterling HAyden, Yogi berra, Agatha Christi and Patton, just to name a few.
I'm currenlty reading Sam Eastlands latest 'Inspector Pekkala Story, "the Beast in the Red Forest.
Inspector Pekalla was a special investigator for the Tsar, and after a punishement tour in the gulag, is now doing the same job for Stalin.
Both of these series are very well written both historicaly and as mystery novels.

I haven't read the Billy Boyle but those sound good. I really like historical mysteries with the same character.

I totally agree about Inspector Pekalla books. Those are great. I've read "Eye of the Red Tsar" and "Archive 17" and enjoyed both of those books.

Also if you like Inspector Pekkala checkout William Ryan's "The Holy Thief" or "The Darkening Field".

I recommend those books if you like Inspector Pekkala.

Followed your recommendation and thoroughly enjoying "The Holy Thief", a realistic portrayal of life in 1930's Soviet Russia and disturbingly detailed crimes.

Owe you a rep when I spread a few more around.
