I enjoyed Sink 'Em All written by Admiral Charles A. Lockwood. It tells the story of the Pacific submarine battles both with the enemy and the Ordnance department to get the torpedoes and exploders fixed.

UTMOST SAVAGERY and ONE SQUARE MILE OF HELL. Two books on the three (+) days of Betio (Tarawa) battle.
At end of first day, the Marine commander said , "Issue in Doubt".
Only time they ever made that comment in *any campaign.

    Pacific War Book Recommendations Please.

    Dear All,

I am still off work recovering from a knee op and a works accident and am running out of stuff to read.......

As I said elsewhere on the forum recently, compared to the Second World War in Europe I don't know all that much about the war against Japan. I've read a few books of course but I may as well take to opportunity to learn a bit more on the subject so can anyone recommend one or two books that would educate this Pacific / Far East / war in Burma ignoramous?

I've read stuff like Helmet for my pillow & Nemesis (by Max Hastings) - any other suggestions would be welcome, particularly about the naval war but I'm open to any aspect of the conflict.

    Thank you!
